Inside the shed where a man was found bound and unconscious after being ‘kidnapped, tortured and held for ransom’ – as police reveal he would be dead if not for three real estate agents

  • Man charged over alleged bashing and kidnapping in Sydney’s west last year
  • Breakthrough comes after three month investigation by NSW Police strike force
  • Man was allegedly assaulted with gun in St Marys workshop before kidnapped
  • Found unconscious and bound in a shed at a nearby property by estate agents

A man who was allegedly kidnapped and bashed unconscious as part of a failed multi-million dollar ransom bid wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for three real estate agents.

The harrowing conditions of a workshop and nearby shed in western Sydney where the man was allegedly tortured last November have been revealed after a breakthrough in the three-month police strike force investigation.

A man, 36, was arrested on Tuesday following an early morning raid on homes in nearby Plumpton and Mount Druitt.

The man was charged with kidnapping a person with intent to gain advantage, reckless grievous bodily harm and using an authorised pistol

He is due to appear in Mount Druitt Local Court later on Tuesday.

Police will allege two men assaulted the victim, 36, with a gun inside a workshop on Links Road in St Marys on November 25.

The unconscious victim was then allegedly kidnapped and taken to a shed at a nearby property at Shanes Park, where he was found bound and unconscious a day later with a fractured skull by real estate agents who were there to do an inspection.

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and has since recovered from his serious injuries.

‘We believed that he was tortured in some way and further injuries inflicted upon him during the 24 hours,’ Detective Acting Superintendent Grant Taylor told reporters on Tuesday.

‘He was in a critical condition and if he didn’t receive medical attention soon after he most likely would have died.’

Police have seized a number of items from the two homes raided on Tuesday morning, which will be forensically examined.

The other alleged offender remains at large.

Police investigations are continuing as part of Strike Force Methuen.
