Inside Vanessa Feltz and Trinny Woodall’s connections

Vanessa Feltz and Trinny Woodall were spotted enjoying a fun-filled night out together on Wednesday and seemed to be bonding at a lavish event.

Fashion guru Trinny, 59, seems to have found comfort in her pal, 61, as they chatted at her first public event since reports surfaced that she has split from partner Charles Saatchi, 79, after growing tired of their 20-year age gap.

Meanwhile, Vanessa is also recently single after her 16-year relationship with her ex Ben Ofoedu broke down last month when she discovered he was cheating on her.

But the pals appeared in good spirits as they bonded at the launch of Elizabeth Day’s new book Friendaholic: Confessions of a Friendship Addict held at Upstairs at Langan’s in Mayfair.

Vanessa even took to her Instagram Stories to share a grinning selfie of the pair as they appeared to be having the time of their lives at the glitzy bash.

However, the pair haven’t always had the closest of relationships after Vanessa previously accused Trinny of ‘betraying all women’ when she started dating Nigella Lawson’s ex Charles after their turbulent split.

Vanessa also berated Trinny in an amusing appearance on a mockumentary before they grew closer during their time on This Morning and have now bonded over their break-ups.

After they were seen partying the night away together, MailOnline takes a look at how the celebrity pals know each other and their connections in the TV industry.

This Morning

Though it is not known exactly when or how Vanessa and Trinny first met, they have crossed paths many times over the years on This Morning.

Vanessa frequently appears on the breakfast show was an agony aunt, giving viewers advice on their lives and relationship problems.

Mostly appearing alongside hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Vanessa answers call-ins from fans and offers them her words of wisdom.

In recent weeks, she was left speechless as a mystery woman told how she’d found herself in a muddle after sleeping with her friend’s ex-boyfriend.

Holly and Phillip burst into laughter as she branded her pal a ‘cow’ when Vanessa suggested she comes clean about her action.

Holly exclaimed, ‘That’s taken a turn of direction suddenly!’ with Phil admitting: ‘Really was not expecting that’.

But the caller insisted they are ‘good friends’ despite her being ‘the jealous type’.

While Vanessa features on the show as an agony aunt, Trinny also regularly appears on This Morning to help people solve their fashion problems.

The makeover expert is a regular on the chat show and shares her many tips and tricks for styling clothes, bringing new life into old items and sprucing up your look.

Much like Vanessa, Trinny has also answered call-ins on the show, handing out individual wardrobe advice, including how to pick out a saucy Valentine’s Day outfit.

As well as their separate appearances on the show, Trinny and Vanessa also appeared on screen together back in 2019.

The segment saw the duo join Holly and Phillip as they all competing in a tense Pancake Day battle, which even included an obstacle course.

Vanessa and Trinny were both on Phillip’s team as they all worked together in a bid to be crowned champions, but sadly lost out to Holly’s team.

Joint mockumentary appearance

Trinny was a 90s star alongside her presenting partner Susannah Constantine and the pair launched an array of very successful makeover shows together.

They were known as Trinny and Susannah and helped people achieve their wardrobe makeover goals, inspiring people to revamp their fashion looks.

In 2010, the noughties icons then launched an amusing mockumentary titled Trinny & Susannah: What They Did Next, which Vanessa appeared on.

Vanessa featured on the second episode of the one-season-long spoof reality TV show, which saw the duo comically hunting for a new agent with disastrous results.

Her appearance on the mockumentary saw her staging a radio interview with the fashionista pair, with things quickly taking an awkward turn, ending in Vanessa berating the stars.

In a clip from the chat, Vanessa said: ‘I said they’d be here and by golly they are! Welcome Trinny and Susannah!’

Quizzing them on their friendship and what they had been up do, Trinny explained they were making a fly-on-the-wall documentary and shared their TV plans.

With their agent Toby making another faux pas, Vanessa showed a clip of Trinny and Susannah rooting through children’s clothes in a segment about ‘how to make short men look taller’.

Trinny then mouthed ‘what the f**k’ before Vanessa interrogated the pair about the clip in the spoof interaction.

Pretending to rage, Vanessa said: ‘This is one that’s going to be very difficult to defend I think, it’s not pretty, it’s not kind, it’s not nice, it’s demeaning, it’s undignified. What the heck are you doing you two?’

To which Trinny replied with: ‘I’m not trying to defend myself, but we do look at short men in this show.’

But Vanessa fumed: ‘The message you give out loud and clear is short is disgusting!’

Things got even worse when someone called-in to the show, leading to Susannah storming out, followed quickly by Trinny, with Vanessa signing off in the amusing moment.

Trinny and Susannah later heaped praise on Vanessa for being so good at being horrible to them and agreeing to take part in the hilarious clip.

Susannah told the Belfast Telegraph: ‘In terms of celebrating what people have criticised us for, people like Vanessa Feltz were brilliant at it.

‘She’s like ‘they’re just two posh birds who are so patronising’ – saying all the things that the press have said about us over the years and doing it brilliantly.

‘She was so amazing in it. And us kind of taking it and having a good old laugh doing it and listening to her.’

Accusations of betrayal

Things haven’t always gone swimmingly between Trinny and Vanessa, as they previously clashed back in 2014 after the fashionista started dating Charles.

Trinny became romantically involved with the businessman in 2012 following his divorce from third wife Nigella Lawson, which had been sparked by shocking images that showed him with his hand around her throat.

He had been single since splitting from food writer Nigella, soon after photographs were published which showed Saatchi holding her by the throat during a lunch at Scott’s in Mayfair.

He explained at the time that it was a ‘playful tiff’ and accepted a police caution.

He later said that he was just helping Nigella to ‘focus’ but she explained that she had seen a cute baby go past in a pushchair and said that she was looking forward to becoming a grandmother, which sparked an argument.

She told a court that he said to her: ‘I’m the only person you should be concerned with.’ Nigella added that her former husband had ‘told everyone’ that he was actually taking cocaine out of her nose.

Following the turbulent split, Vanessa penned a column for the Express in which she accused Trinny of betraying ‘all women’ after their infamous lunch date in 2014.

Proving they were not always close pals, Vanessa accused Trinny of being ‘unsisterly’ by being seen out for lunch with Charles after his split from Nigella.

‘There was something unsisterly about enthusiastically dating a bloke who had publicly reduced our beloved Nigella to tears,’ she wrote.

‘Even if you’d admired Trinny’s forthright TV approach to other women’s poor fashion choices it was hard to love her for falling willingly into the arms of Saatchi.

‘Whether she’d known Nigella personally or not, hanging on Saatchi’s arm and snogging him in taxis felt like a betrayal of all women.’

Mutual friends

Despite their difference of opinion in the past, the pair have grown closer over the years and have an extensive host of mutual friends from This Morning.

Vanessa is often seen out socialising with her ITV co-stars and recently partied with them at Alison Hammond’s birthday bash.

Last month, Vanessa attended Alison’s joint 48th and 18th birthday party with her son Aiden, with the likes of Holly and Dermot O’Leary in attendance.

Gok Wan also put his DJ skills to use as he blasted out Liberty X’s Just A Little from behind the decks before telling viewers he wasn’t getting paid for the gig.

While not pictured at the event, Vanessa revealed she was present at the star-studded bash in the comments of Holly’s Instagram.

She wrote: ‘Thank you for letting me follow your car home. It was my guiding star.’

Trinny and Vanessa are also both friends with writer Elizabeth Day and were seen partying together at her latest party – aptly to celebrate the release of her book on friendship.

They both shared snaps with their pal as they showed their support at the launch of her new book Friendaholic: Confessions of a Friendship Addict.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Trinny shared a selfie with Elizabeth and penned alongside the snap: ‘So proud of my gorgeous friend @elizabday. She has written the most incredible book on friendship.’

Meanwhile, Vanessa also shared a snap with the author, captioning the selfie: ‘Congratulations wonderful writer.’

Career similarities

Vanessa and Trinny have both carved a name out for themselves in the TV industry and have both launched their own shows, though haven’t appeared on each others.

Vanessa has a drivetime show with TalkTV which sees her engage in fiery political debates and chat to celebrities as she gets the latest gossip from their lives.

Since September 2022, she has presented the weekday show on both TalkRadio and TalkTV and has made a name for herself with the channel.

Her new venture came after she quit the BBC last summer, having hosted an early morning show on BBC Radio 2 from 2011 while she also helmed the breakfast show on BBC Radio London.

Likewise, Trinny has also previously featured in her very own fashion shows on TV, including an array alongside her co-star Susannah.

She was the face of What Not to Wear, The Great British Body and an array of Trinny & Susannah shows, which saw the presenting duo give fashion advice to the public.

As well as presenting alongside Susannah, she also has her very own YouTube series – The Trinny Takeover Show.

The feel-good show, which recently finished its fifth series, sees Trinny take someone who needs a life makeover under her wing as she helps them achieve their goals.

Helping each other through heartbreak

In recent weeks, both Vanessa and Trinny have reportedly suffered heartbreak after their long-term relationships sadly came to an end.

They have been supporting each other through the difficult time and put their cares behind them on Wednesday evening as they partied the night away.

It was Trinny’s first public event since reports surfaced that she has split from partner Charles Saatchi, 79, after growing tired of their 20-year age gap.

Trinny looked as fashionable as ever in a snakeskin print skirt, a fringed top with a sparkly black coat and chunky boots, while her ex Charles was pictured making a low-key appearance in Chelsea earlier in the day.

Friends close to Trinny claim her 20-year age gap with Charles caused issues in their relationship.

Speaking to The Sun, a pal said: ‘Charles wants to slow down. He prefers quiet evenings at home while Trinny feels the opposite.

‘She feels she’s in her prime and wants to be out and about.’

Trinny has been dating Saatchi for 10 years – since he split from wife Nigella Lawson – but the make-up and beauty mogul said on Instagram on Friday that she was moving forward.

She posted: ‘It’s a new day, it’s a new dawn, it’s a new life.’ She added: ‘I have been moving but now I have moved.’

Charles, an ad-man turned art collector, is said to be worth around £100 million. Trinny’s worth isn’t known but her beauty and skincare brand is said to be worth £180million and rising. He declined to comment.

Meanwhile, Vanessa is also getting over heartbreak after she split with her partner of 17 years Ben.

Her night out came after Ben, 50, announced his hopes to reunite, saying that they ‘loved each other for 17 years’.

Setting the record straight, he said: ‘We were in love for 17 years, so yeah I would love to be back in that situation because I love her so much.

He told presenter Mark Dolan: ‘Vanessa and I parted ways. I mean, I’ve been pretty honest about it, really. All it was, I’d had an affair before which put our relationship on quite dodgy ground, but we’d got over it really and that was like 2015.

‘I just want to set the record straight, it’s not several women. I’m not a serial cheater. I don’t go to holiday camps and just cheat. That’s not the truth, but I think it kind of made a great narrative that the love rat, the love cheat.’

They split last month when she discovered he had cheated on her during their 17-year relationship.

Earlier this month, broadcaster Vanessa admitted life ‘isn’t easy’ after the split.

The star shared a video to Instagram on Monday where she revealed she ‘can’t sleep in the middle of the night’ but hopes it will get better.

‘Beautiful song just got me thinking!! Have a blessed day. God’s love be with you.’

While enjoying dinner at the Brasserie Of Light restaurant within London’s Selfridges, she was asked by a friend, ‘Vanessa, you’re looking great but how do you really feel?’

After pulling an emotional expression, she replied: ‘Well, no one said it was going to be easy and I must say it isn’t easy actually, especially in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep and all of that.

‘But I’m keeping on, keeping on and I’ve got lots and lots of friends and family around me and I’m really loving that. Everyday I suppose I hope it’s going to get a little bit easier but thank you for asking.’

Ben admitted he had cheated on his partner while on a tour of UK holiday parks with his electronic dance music act.

Last month, Vanessa announced she had broken up with Ben after a series of other illicit relationships emerged.
