The eldest daughter of billionaire Bill Gates has given birth to her first child – but despite being born into one of the richest families in the world, Jennifer Gates’ new baby may not have the lavish upbringing that you’d expect.
Jennifer, 26, announced the arrival of her first child – a baby girl whose name has not been revealed just yet – with her husband, Olympic showjumper Nayel Nassar, over the weekend.
And while the newest member of the Gates family’s grandfather has a whopping net worth of $107 billion – it’s likely that she won’t be getting much of the Microsoft founder’s immense fortune, since he has voiced his fears over his kids becoming ‘distorted’ over ‘wealth’ on numerous occasions, and even once vowed to use his earnings to ‘help the poor’ rather than his own children.
While raising their children, Bill and his ex-wife, Melinda Gates – who split in May 2021 after 27 years of marriage – did their best to give their three kids, Jennifer, Rory, and Phoebe, a normal childhood, leaving many to wonder if Jennifer will take the same approach with her daughter.

Bill, 67, and Melinda, 58, made their kids do chores and split the household work as evenly as possible, while tech mogul Bill has even admitted that he was a stickler about screen time – and didn’t allow his kids to have phones until they were age 14.
The exes may have tried to raise their kids as modestly as possible, but their living situation was far from humble – the family grew up in a $131 million mansion in Medina, Washington, that came complete with seven bathrooms, 24 bathrooms, and six kitchens, as well as its own man-made beach, at-home movie theater, gym, and trampoline room.
And even though Bill has said he wants his kids to ‘create their own path’ and that they won’t see much of his billions, they have certainly benefited from being a part of the wealthy family.
He gifted Jennifer, who is currently studying to be a doctor, not one, but two luxurious homes over the years – including a $16 million horse farm in upstate New York and a $51 million penthouse apartment in Manhattan – and she had a $2 million, multi-day wedding last year.
As Jennifer welcomes her first child, FEMAIL has taken a look insider her glamorous life, despite Bill continuously insisting that they his offspring have to forge their own way, and has revealed what that really means for her newborn baby.
Growing up a Gates: Billionaires Bill and Melinda did their best to give Jennifer a modest childhood – restricting screen time, not letting her have a phone until age 14, and making her do chores – despite living in a $131 million mega-mansion

Despite being one of the richest couples in the world, the billionaire parents did their best to give their kids a normal childhood, and were even pretty strict – making them do daily chores, limiting screen time, and not letting them get phones until age 14.
Melinda spoke out making her kids help with household work in her 2019 book, The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World, explaining that it was important to her since cleaning and cooking traditionally falls on women more than men.
She also recalled the moment she decided it was time to divvy up the chores equally to Business Insider in 2019, explaining, ‘One night I realized I was still in the kitchen a good 10, 15 minutes after everybody else doing the last-minute things.
‘Sometimes in the moment my frustration or anger just comes out. So one night we stood up after dinner and people in the family started to melt away, like, off they go upstairs.

‘So hand on my hips, I’m, like, “Nobody leaves the kitchen until I leave the kitchen.” There are still things that we do in our home that I wanted to make sure we did as parents, and that our kids participated, so they would know what it was to grow up and have responsibilities.’
She added that washing dishes together after dinner became a Gates family tradition after that.

‘We often set a time after which there is no screen time and in their case that helps them get to sleep at a reasonable hour,’ he explained to Mirror.
‘You’re always looking at how it can be used in a great way – homework and staying in touch with friends – and also where it has gotten to excess.
‘We don’t have cellphones at the table when we are having a meal, we didn’t give our kids cellphones until they were 14 and they complained other kids got them earlier.’
Faith was also a huge part of Jennifer’s childhood, with Bill telling Rolling Stone in 2014, ‘We’ve raised our kids in a religious way. They’ve gone to the Catholic church that Melinda goes to and I participate in.’
While chatting to a crowd of Harvard students in 2018, the Microsoft founder revealed that he and his ex-wife used the 1970s ‘Love and Logic’ parenting style while raising their three kids.

It was revealed in 2014 that Bill will be leaving most of his fortune – estimated to be around $107 billion – to his family’s foundation, rather than his kids

‘Our kids will receive a great education and some money so they are never going to be poorly off but they’ll go out and have their own career,’ he explained to This Morning in 2017.
‘It’s not a favor to kids to have them have huge sums of wealth. It distorts anything they might do, creating their own path.

In a 2020 interview with Sidelines Magazine, Jennifer revealed that she was exposed to ‘difficult’ topics as a young age.
‘As a young kid, they always talked to me like I was an adult and weren’t willing to shy around difficult conversations,’ she said.
‘I grew up hearing about children’s mortality at the dinner table, about polio, about the HIV/AIDs epidemic.’
The medical student even recalled how her mother once walked in on her playing ‘doctor’ as a child – she was telling one of her dolls that she had HIV/AIDS, and she was going to help her.
‘My mom thought at that point maybe they were talking a bit too much about global health at the dinner table,’ she added with a laugh.
Elite education: Jennifer graduated from the same high school where Bill met his Microsoft co-founder before she headed to Stanford followed by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Jennifer attended the elite Lakeside High School in Seattle – the same school her father graduated from when he was a teen.
It was at the private school that Bill discovered his passion for computers and met his Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.
‘If there had been no Lakeside, there would have been no Microsoft,’ he shared in a speech he gave at the school in 2005.
‘The experience and insight Paul Allen and I gained here gave us the confidence to start a company based on this wild idea that nobody else agreed with — that computer chips were going to become so powerful that computers and software would become a tool that would be on every desk and in every home.’
All three of Bill’s children graduated from Lakeside, where tuition cost $40,080 for the 2022-2023 school year.
There is a rigorous application process for entry into the school’s 5th-12th grade program, which has an acceptance rate of just 17 per cent, according to Private School Review.
However, considering Bill is an alum and one of the richest, most powerful men in the world, his children likely had no problem getting in.
After graduating from the Lakeside School, Jennifer attended Stanford University – where she became fiercely passionate about helping children.
In a 2016 interview with Horse Network, she explained, ‘I just took a class about children, youth, and the law, so we learned about the juvenile justice system, the foster care system, and all the issues surrounding that.
Jennifer then took a gap year before enrolling at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, where she is currently studying to become a doctor
The medical student hopes to one day specialize in pediatrics or primary care
‘I’m really interested in children’s well-being, especially here in the United States. I find that fascinating.’
She also gained an interest in marine biology after spending three months studying the subject abroad in Australia.
The heiress went on to graduate from Stanford with a bachelor’s degree in human biology in the spring of 2018.
Jennifer then took a gap year to focus on competitive horseback riding before enrolling at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, where she is currently studying to become a doctor.
The medical student, who hopes to one day specialize in pediatrics or primary care, admitted that she almost gave up on her dreams early on in her college career after ‘struggling’ to get her school work done.
‘I really struggled through my first quarter of chemistry at Stanford, and I thought to myself, “I don’t think I’m cut out to be a doctor if I can’t learn this material,”‘ she recalled in a 2019 interview with the Horse Network.
Despite her initial lack of confidence, she then realized that success wasn’t about her natural abilities – but rather, the work she was willing to put into her studies.
In May 2021, Jennifer announced on Instagram that she had decided to postpone her STEP 1 U.S. Medical Licensing Examination until the following year
The aspiring doctor explained that she felt like she needed to ‘give herself a break to rest and recharge,’ but added that it wasn’t an easy decision for her to make
‘I changed into this growth mindset and thought, “I might not be good at this initially, but if I go to office hours every day, and do extra practice problems every day, and fully dedicate myself to this, then I can be successful,’ she continued.
‘Chemistry is difficult and hard for many people (like myself) to understand at first — but I realized it is not that I wasn’t good enough, it was just going to take some extra effort to learn.’
In May 2021, Jennifer announced on Instagram that she had decided to postpone her STEP 1 U.S. Medical Licensing Examination until the following year.
At the time, she was in the midst of planning her wedding and dealing with her parents’ high-profile divorce, but it’s unclear what led to her decision.
The aspiring doctor explained that she felt like she needed to ‘give herself a break to rest and recharge,’ but added that it wasn’t an easy decision for her to make.
‘Despite my instinct to keep working harder and push through to take this exam in June, my intuition was telling me to take a step back. I knew I needed to give myself a break to rest and recharge,’ she shared.
‘This wasn’t an easy choice, especially since I am so used to leaning into the hustle, but I feel good about it and am proud of how I found my way through this decision.
‘I so appreciate the opportunity to adjust my plans as life unfolds, and am looking forward to slowing down a bit over the next couple weeks.’
Jennifer, who is in her third year of medical school, will likely be taking more time off now that she’s welcomed her first child.
High-class hobbies: While studying to become a doctor, Jennifer also became an elite horse jumper – competing in championships around the globe and launching her own equestrian training facility in 2017

Jennifer fell in love with horseback riding at a young age, and it is a passion that she shares with her husband, Nayel, who is an Olympic showjumper.
She was just six years old when she started taking horseback riding lessons with her best friend, according to Evergate Stables, the equestrian training facility she founded in 2017.
With the support of her parents, the heiress started training as a showjumper – and she helped her team secure the silver medal at the 2016 North American Young Rider Championship and win the 2017 USEF U25 Series Championship.
Jennifer also represented the United States on Nations Cup teams in 2017 and 2018, and during her one-year break from school from 2018-2019, she earned multiple top-10 placings competing in prestigious Grand Prix events around the world.
Jennifer has also competed against some of the world’s most famous daughters, including Eve Jobs (daughter of the late Steve Jobs), Jessica Springsteen (daughter of Bruce Springsteen), Destry Alyn Spielberg (daughter of Steven Spielberg), and Georgina Bloomberg (daughter of billionaire Michael Bloomberg).
Since starting medical school in 2019, she has shifted her focus to her studies, but horseback riding will always be a part of her life.
‘I always knew that I was going to have one or two years to really focus on the horses before transitioning into this next phase of my professional life,’ she told the Horse Network in 2019.
‘I absolutely love the sport, but have always felt that I wanted to do something else as a primary career.

Jennifer is also an avid reader, like her father. When she’s not studying or competing on the equestrian circuit, her favorite thing to do is curl up with a good book.
Jennifer is also an avid reader, like her father, and shares her recommendations on Instagram
‘It’s such a nice break to get lost in a story (or escape from the day to day during these challenging times) and reset your mind,’ she wrote on Instagram in July 2020.
In the post, she shared some of her favorite books, including Normal People by Sally Rooney and Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.
Jennifer posted a snapshot of another one of her book stacks in April 2022, revealing that she had finished them the month before while on a research elective.
She called Midnight Library by Matt Haig the ‘best fiction [she’s] read in a long time’ and Emily Ratajkowski’s memoir My Body a ‘thought provoking take on women’s bodies in a patriarchal consumerist society.’
She also dubbed Already Enough: A Path to Self-Acceptance by Lisa Olivera a ‘must-read,’ noting, ‘I really liked and would recommend all of these — I won’t finish a book if I don’t enjoy it!’

Jennifer and her husband, Nayel, met while competing internationally on the equestrian horse circuit. Their friendship eventually evolved into romance.
The couple, both Stanford graduates, officially started dating in January 2017, and they celebrated their first Valentine’s Day together the following month.
Nayel marked the occasion on Instagram by sharing a photo of their dinner date in Miami Beach, writing, ‘Lucky guy convincing this beauty to be my Valentine this year.’
The Egyptian-American equestrian was born in Chicago and raised in Kuwait. His millionaire parents, Fouad Nassar and Iman Harby, are the owners of the architectural firm Diwan Interiors International in Kuwait.
Nayel had a ‘wealthy upbringing’ and his parents bought him his first horse at the age of 10, according to Al Arabiya English.
He returned to the US at 18 to attend Stanford University in California, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 2013.
In December 2017, after nearly a year of dating, he brought Jennifer home to Kuwait with him, a special trip which he also documented on Instagram.
‘Memorable times in Kuwait last week with family and old friends. Got to bring Jenn home and give her a glimpse of my childhood,’ he wrote at the time. ‘It meant the world to me. Needless to say, she was loved by all.’
Nayel returned to Stanford in June 2018 to celebrate Jennifer’s graduation, and proudly shared photos of himself posing with her in her cap and gown.

‘I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives learning, growing, laughing and loving together. Yes a million times over.’
He was also filled with joy as he gushed about his bride-to-be and their future together.
‘She said yes,’ he shared. ‘I’m feeling like the luckiest (and happiest) man in the world right about now.
‘Jenn, you are everything I could have possibly imagined… and so much more. I can’t wait to keep growing together through this journey called life, and I simply can’t imagine mine without you anymore.
‘Love you more than you can possibly imagine, and thank you for making every single day feel like a dream to me. Here’s to forever.’

For the Saturday ceremony, the bride dazzled in a custom Vera Wang wedding gown. The long-sleeve A-line gown featured hand appliqué French macrame lace and an Italian tulle skirt.
The ceremony was performed by a longtime family friend, and the bride and groom wrote their own vows.
Jennifer had nine bridesmaids – including her younger sister, Phoebe – who all dressed in evergreen.
Following their ‘I dos,’ the couple made a quick getaway to have some private wedding photos taken on the estate, while guests headed into a specially constructed ‘botanical garden’ where the cocktail hour was held.
The blushing bride changed into a second gown custom Vera Wang dress for the reception. The sleeveless dress featured a square neckline and hand appliqué French macrame lace on the skirt and straps.
Jennifer and Bill danced to Elton John’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight, while her first dance with her new husband was to Yellow Lights, a song ‘which was written and performed by their friend and artist Harry Hudson,’ according to Vogue. Coldplay also performed at the reception.
Saturday’s guest list mostly consisted of friends and family, with few celebrities or politicians invited.
Georgina Bloomberg, the daughter of billionaire Michael Bloomberg and a fellow professional equestrian, was in attendance with her husband and son.

The extravagant two-day event, costing an estimated $2 million, was orchestrated by famed wedding planner Marcy Blum, whose elite client list includes Kevin Bacon, LeBron James, and Billy Joel.
In an interview with Vogue, Jennifer said it was ‘no small feat’ to plan the wedding while she was in medical school rotations and Nayel was preparing for the Olympics, which he competed in for Egypt that year.
‘It’s been a challenging year, both collectively with the pandemic and for our families going through transitions,’ she explained.
‘But our love for one another has been a constant. Being able to celebrate our wedding with our closest friends and family was a dream come true.’
To keep from letting the stress get to them, she said they reminded themselves what their wedding was ultimately about – their love for each other.
‘One piece of advice we were given [throughout the planning process] was to remember that this day is about us and our love,’ Jennifer shared.
‘I think we really kept that at the center of our minds while planning, and we also tried to ensure that our families and friends were able to enjoy themselves.’
Jennifer added that they required all 300 of their wedding guests to be vaccinated and take COVID-19 tests in order to ensure everyone’s safety.
‘We made the decision that all guests must be fully vaccinated and receive a negative test result prior to the wedding. We also made masks available,’ she explained.
‘We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to gather with our loved ones safely. We know others aren’t as lucky, especially as the pandemic continues to devastate communities in the United States and around the world.’

Like her mother, Jennifer’s newborn daughter will grow up in luxury – since the heiress owns a $16 million horse farm and a $51 million penthouse, both gifted to her by her parents.
Back in 2017, Bill purchased a condo located at 1212 Fifth Ave in New York City in December 2017 through a trust administered through Watermark Estate Management Services LLC, which he reportedly used for his personal and family matters, per the New York Post.
But it was later revealed that Jennifer would be living in the lavish apartment while attending the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, which is just blocks away.
The 2,389-square-foot residence in East Harlem, which once belonged to Carmelo and La La Anthony, boasts views of Central Park and comes with three bedrooms, including a master suite with a spa-style ensuite bathroom.
Jennifer and her husband, Nayel, were also gifted a $51 million penthouse apartment in Manhattan’s trendy Tribeca neighborhood
The Tribeca home was purchased last month by a Seattle-based trust linked to her father
The three-floor apartment was previously owned by Lewis Hamilton and is the largest in the luxury apartment building at 443 Greenwich Street
After she graduated, it was reported that Bill had listed his daughter’s New York City apartment for $4.75 million.
The equestrian was then gifted a 124-acre horse farm in North Salem, New York – where she later got married – as well as a $51 million Manhattan penthouse from her parents after she shared the baby news.
The latter, located in Tribeca, was purchased in January by a Seattle-based trust linked to her father, the New York Post reported.
The 8,900-square-foot apartment, which has 3,400 square feet of outdoor space, was previously owned by Lewis Hamilton and is the largest in a starry luxury apartment building at 443 Greenwich Street.
The penthouse boasts six bedrooms, six baths, two powder rooms, 20-foot-high ceilings, multiple terraces, and two parking spaces
The building features a 70-foot indoor swimming pool and Turkish baths as well as a 5,000-square-foot communal roof terrace

Lewis sold it in 2021 after four years of ownership but never even moved in. It sold for slightly more than its $49.5 million list price.
The three-level apartment has six bedrooms, six baths, two powder rooms, 20-foot-high ceilings, multiple terraces, and two parking spaces.
It has its own elevator, and on the top level, dual terraces flank an additional penthouse living room with floor-to-ceiling windows, according to an old property listing.
The apartment’s main terrace overlooks northwest Tribeca and the Hudson River and has its own outdoor swimming pool.
