Instagram is DOWN: Meta-owned app hit with worldwide outage leaving thousands of users unable to access accounts

  • Instagram is down for users worldwide who cite issues with the app
  • Users claim they cannot access their accounts and News Feed isn’t loading

Instagram is down for users worldwide, leaving thousands of people unable to scroll, post and like.

The outage hit the Meta-owned platform Monday afternoon, with many users citing issues with the app, News Feed and logging into accounts.

Issues have been reported in the US, the UK, Europe, Asia and other parts of the globe.

Many users flocked to Elon Musk’s X to see if others were having issues, with some joking that it is interesting that Instagram would go down on April Fool’s Day.

DownDetector, a site that monitors online outage, shows issues appeared around 2pm and 71 percent of user cited problems with the app – 12 percent cannot log into their accounts.

When one social media platform goes down, users tend to seek answers on another – and it is usually Musk’s X.

Shortly after issues began to surface, people began asking other X users if they were also experiencing problems with the Meta-owned platform.

Some users thought it was comical that Instagram has also gone down on April Fool’s Day, while noting that the platform seems to have issues every other week.

DownDetector’s outage map shows New York City and Los Angeles in ‘red’ – meaning users there have reported the most issues.

Across the Atlantic, reports from the UK are coming from Manchester and London.

However, there are more issue reports submitted by Americans than from another other nation.

Monday’s outage comes about three weeks since Instagram experienced issues.

On March 21,  the photo-sharing app, Facebook and Messenger were all hit with a worldwide outage that lasted for more than two hours.

The outage appeared around 10:45am ET, hitting the US, the UK, parts of Europe and Asia – other nations have also been impacted.

DownDetector, a site that monitors online disturbances, reported issues with the apps, websites and users accessing accounts.
