Instagram model Vera Zinger among alleged dealers arrested in ‘Christmas cocaine crackdown’

A glamorous Instagram model who boasts about her adventures across Europe online is among more than 40 arrested in a Christmas crackdown on alleged cocaine dealing in Sydney.

Vera Zinger, who earns a living promoting skimpy swimwear and other products to her 87,000 Instagram followers, was pulled over in Barangaroo on November 29 when police searched her car.

They allegedly found two grams of drugs and $2,150 in cash. She was subsequently given a court attendance notice for two counts of supplying prohibited drugs, possessing prohibited drugs and dealing with proceeds of crime.

The 23-year-old is expected to face court in January, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Her arrest has not stopped her social media activity, with the young model sharing an image of herself walking up the stairs to the Bronte baths promoting Oh Polly Swim three days later.

Zinger has previously flaunted her jet-setting life on Instagram with flashy shots taken all over Europe.

In June she posted her first glamorous travel picture, posing in front of a picturesque view of Turkey.

Her travels saw her in some of the world’s most desirable locations including Barcelona, Ibiza, Amsterdam, Mykonos and Santorini.

For two months Zinger posted luxurious travel shots promoting skimpy underwear in Italy’s Amalfi Coast, Croatia and resorts in Dubai.

‘After two months of travelling, I clearly have still not found what I am searching for,’ she wrote alongside a picture in Italy.

‘I will continue to do the “hand on head – it’s sunny” pose until then.’

Zinger was one of 84 people arrested over six days in what police described as a ‘Christmas cocaine crackdown.’ Of those, police allege 46 were dealers.

It is not suggested Zinger is connected to any of the alleged dealers.

One of the men arrested was a 51-year-old taxi driver who was allegedly found with two mobile phones, $3,400 and more than 13g of cocaine in a hidden compartment in the taxi.

Another was a 24-year-old pregnant woman who was a passenger in a car in Cronulla when police allegedly found $2,970 cash, four mobile phones and more than 13g of cocaine hidden in a can of energy drink.

A 29-year-old man who was arrested allegedly tried to flee from the police by driving into oncoming traffic in Sydney’s CBD after officers tried to stop and search the vehicle.

The crackdown was part of Operation Strike Force Northrop which ran from September 2017 to December 2019 across Sydney’s CBD, the Eastern Suburbs and the Sutherland shire areas.

The most recent crackdown allegedly netted more than 350g of cocaine and more than $69,500 of cash over six nights in November and December.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Bell said New South Wales police were astounded by how brazen the alleged drug transactions had become.

‘(They’re) often taking place in highly visible and crowded locations in Sydney’s CBD and surrounding suburbs,’ he said in a statement on Monday.

‘This operation once again shows that cocaine supply and possession is not limited to one specific group of people, with several individuals from well-regarded professions in the community among those now before the courts.

‘Unfortunately, some of these people will now spend Christmas behind bars or are likely to start 2020 with a criminal record.’

Since its inception in 2017, Strike Force Northrop investigators have charged 251 people with drug-related offences, including 160 for supply.
