A trip to one of Australia’s most picturesque locations wouldn’t be complete without a happy snap posted to Instagram marking the occasion.
And now the popular photo-sharing app has tallied its most Instagrammed spots of 2017, revealing Sydney sites are the most popular.
The Sydney Opera House, Darling Harbour and Manly Beach all feature in Australia’s top five places people want to share with the world.
But it’s the iconic Bondi Beach on the city’s east coast which has reigned supreme, taking out the number one spot in 2017.

Whether it’s a photo of Bondi’s famous blue-green waters, or a bikini-clad snap with friends in the sand – locals and tourists alike are sharing envy-inducing pictures of the spot in droves.
The Sydney Opera House was named the second most Instagrammed location in Australia for 2017, followed closely by nearby Darling Harbour.
Also proving the popularity of seaside locations with social media users is Surfers Paradise Beach on the Gold Coast, which came in at sixth – just before Melbourne’s St Kilda Beach.
Meanwhile, events such as the AFL Grand Final has seen the world famous Melbourne Cricket Ground break into the list, placing in ninth.
And rounding out the top ten is Melbourne’s second location on the list – the National Gallery of Victoria.

The world famous Melbourne Cricket Ground, which Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell visited earlier in the year (pictured), broke into the list, placing in ninth
Other popular destinations included Northern Territory’s Uluru, Western Australia’s Rottnest Island, South Australia’s Adelaide Oval, Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art and ACT’s Lake Burley Griffin.
Instagram also revealed that many social media users included the hashtag ‘#love’ when sharing their photos.
The hashtag #love was proved to be Australia’s most used hashtag for the second year in a row – more popular than ‘#australia’ and ‘#travel’.
