Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi has described Romelu Lukaku as a ‘very good signing’ for Roma, with the striker set to arrive on loan from Chelsea.

Lukaku spent last season on loan at Inter and Inzaghi’s side made an attempt to re-sign him permanently earlier in the transfer window, making offers of £23million and £26m, which were turned down.

However, Inzaghi stated that he is very happy with the composition of his squad and added that he feels having Lukaku in Serie A is of great benefit to the league.

Inzaghi told DAZN: ‘Lukaku, very good signing and it’s good news for AS Roma & Italian football, it’s excellent news for Serie A to have top players like Lukaku.

‘I’m very happy with my own players, I’m so happy with them.’

Chelsea have agreed a £5million loan deal with Roma for Lukaku, with the striker set to be reunited with Jose Mourinho, who he worked with at Manchester United and for a time at Chelsea.

Chelsea accepted less than their desired £8m fee so that they will not have to make any contribution to Lukaku’s salary while he is in Rome where he will earn around £6.4million.

Lukaku, who previously earned £320,000-a-week, is set to take a pay cut in order for  the move to go ahead, while Chelsea have inserted a release clause of £37m into his revised contract.

Last season Lukaku scored 14 goals in 37 appearances for Inter. He previously played for the club on a permanent contract, scoring 64 times in 95 games.

Lukaku turned down the opportunity to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal this summer and was also the subject of interest from Juventus.
