Internet sleuth discovers Scott Morrison and wife Jenny are owed $600 from an old bank account – sparking thousands of Aussies to use the ‘unclaimed money’ search

An internet sleuth has discovered Scott Morrison and his wife Jenny are owed more than $600 from an old bank account that is waiting to be claimed. 

Mr Morrison’s details were entered into a little known website that was designed to track down more than a billion dollars in lost money in accounts across the country. 

The Australian Security and Investment Commission’s MoneySmart website features a search function that can allow Australian’s to find money that may be sitting under their name.

This money may be from bank accounts, investments, insurance policies, or shares. 

According to ASIC, money can be misplaced when people forget to update their details, move address, move overseas, or when a company holds money when they are unaware who to release it to. 

The Australian Taxation Office has a similar search function online where Australians can find lost superannuation under their name. 

Prime Minister Scott Morrison was born in Waverley in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and grew up in the area. 

He graduated from the University of New South Wales with a degree in economic geography. 

His first job was at the Property Council of Australia where he worked as the national policy and research manager.
