Ipswich: Two cops are slashed during police chase in Brisbane

Two police officers have been injured, one with a serious slash to his arm, after a passenger from a car they stopped emerged with knife in south west Queensland.

The police helicopter followed the car across several south Brisbane suburbs before tyre deflation devices were used to bring it to a stop on Boundary Road at the intersection of Antimony Street in Carole Park, just after 1am on Sunday. 

It is alleged police approached the car when a passenger emerged weilding a knife and slashed a Senior Constable from the South Brisbane District across the arm.

The officer was seriously injured, with his colleague providing immediate first aid to the wound. 

A second officer allegedly sustained a cut to his finger while arresting three people from the car. 

The two officers were taken to hospital for treatment. Neither officer’s injuries are considered life-threatening.

Detectives charged a 37-year-old man from Cherbourg with acts intended to resist lawful arrest and is set to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday. 

The driver, a 25-year-old Goodna woman, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evading police, five counts of stealing and four counts of unlicensed driving. 

The woman is set to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
