The teenage asylum seeker accused of the Parsons Green bucket bomb attack that injured 30 Tube travellers will stand trial in March, a court heard.

Ahmed Hassan Mohammad Ali, 18, is accused of packed explosives, knives and screws into a white bucket in a Lidl bag and leaving it on a District Line train on September 15.

Ahmed Hassan Mohammad Ali, accused of planting a bucket bomb on a busy tube train, appeared in court today and was told he will stand trial next year

The Old Bailey heard the attack was ‘motivated by politics’ and is being treated as an act of terrorism.

Ali spoke only to identify himself and showed no emotion while he appeared at court via video link from HMP Belmarsh. He has indicated not guilty pleas.

Judge Charles Haddon-Cave said he will preside over the two-week trial at the Old Bailey on 5 March 2018.

He continued: ‘Mr Ali, having spoken to counsel you will have heard that I have now adjourned this case for a further hearing to take place on the 19 January by way of preparation for the trial, and I have fixed the trial of your case for two weeks commencing on the 5 March next year.

‘I’m now going to adjourn this hearing.’

Ali, of Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, is charged with attempted murder and using the explosive substance TATP (triacetate triperoxide) to endanger life or cause serious injury to property.

He was remanded in custody until a plea and case management hearing at the Old Bailey on 19 January.
