Irish murder suspect ‘hungover in bed with a prostitute’ when Costa Del Sol assassination took place

A man accused of assassinating a gang member on the Costa del Sol has claimed he was in bed with a hangover and a prostitute on the morning of the attack.

James Quinn denied being at the apartment block where Gary Hutch died three years ago after being shot at 15 times.

His murder sparked one of the bloodiest gang battles ever in Ireland.

Quinn told the prosecution in Malaga he had flown back from Dubai where he attended a wedding days before Hutch was murdered.

He said on the morning of the attack, ‘I was in bed with a hangover and a prostitute’.

Pressed for the woman’s name the father-of-one replied he didn’t know her personally, reported the Irish Times.

It is the first time Quinn has spoken about the incident in three years.

Hutch was chased and executed by a swimming pool at a resort near Marbella on September 24, 2015.

Jurors were told how a ‘balaclava-clad’ killer waited over two hours after arriving in a getaway vehicle with two unidentified accomplices.

State prosecutor Jose Barba called it a ‘surprise attack’ as police found the victim’s car door open with the keys near his hand.

In the opening address, it was alleged Quinn fired more than 15 shots at Hutch with some entering his back leaving him motionless.

Hutch, nephew of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch, was ‘finished off’ with two point-blank shots to the head, Barba said.

Suspected hitman Quinn confirmed he knew Gary Hutch because they used the same gym in Puerto Banus where Daniel Kinahan trained.

Daniel is son of mob boss Christy Kinahan.

Barba said Quinn ‘was a contract killer working for a criminal organisation’.

The court heard claims Quinn swapped his balaclava for a baseball cap which was found with the defendant’s DNA in a burned-out BMW X3 near the murder scene.

Two unlicensed guns he allegedly used to kill Hutch were also found in a property he is believed to have been staying at.

Quinn has also been charged with illegal weapons possession which carries a three-year prison sentence.

His murder sparked a killing spree in the infamous Hutch-Kinahan feud which has cost the lives of at least 15 people killed in Dublin and in Spain.

The bloodshed brought the murder of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch’s brother Eddie in February 2016 which was a retaliation for the murder of mobster David Byrne, one of Kinahan’s senior lieutenants.
