Do I detect an imminent engagement for Sherlock’s Martin Freeman?

I hear The Hobbit star’s romance with French actress Rachel Mariam is becoming so serious that he’s joined her on a visit to her hometown, Toulouse. The couple have shared this photograph to capture the moment.

Freeman, 50, and Mariam, 30, who had a small part in BBC drama Normal People, have been going out together for two years.

It is Freeman’s first serious relationship since he split up in 2016 with Amanda Abbington, 48, the mother of his two children, who played his wife in Sherlock.

Engagement rumours follow Abbington’s own surprise engagement to America’s Got Talent contestant Jonathan Goodwin in October. 

Welsh escapologist Goodwin is perhaps best known for falling 40ft after being struck by two exploding cars simultaneously during a rehearsal for America’s Got Talent: Extreme.

The 41-year-old Welsh later shared a selfie from hospital with a lengthy caption, in which he thanked loved ones for their support while also confirming his engagement to the English actress.  

Rounding of a tribute to friends and family members, he wrote: ‘Then most importantly my fiancé and the best thing to ever happen to me, Amanda.

‘I have been to the very brink and dodged the worst that a human being can, without fear…because I was protected by love. Love is all you need, so make sure you get some, cos its good s***. ‘

Moving on: Abbington’s own surprise engagement to America’s Got Talent contestant Jonathan Goodwin was confirmed last October

There had been rumors of a proposal for weeks after Goodwin added an engagement ring to his Instagram bio, suggesting he had asked Abbington for her hand in marriage.  

The actress shared her first picture with Goodwin one week prior to his accident, posting a throwback from a romantic Austrian getaway that she captioned: ‘When in Vienna, you hang out at the graveyards. What of it.’ 

She also confirmed her romance to The Daily Mail, telling columnist Richard Eden: ‘Jonathan sets fire to himself and catches bullets for a living, but is also grown up, sensitive, and considerate. I’m completely besotted.’
