Is the Block heading Byron Bay? Residents fury amid rumours series is relocating North

A Byron Bay resident who is suffering from cancer and is in palliative care has refused to sell her home of 11 years to producers of The Block, who want to purchase her property for the 2022 season of the show.

Dorothy May, 74, says she has rejected an offer of $2million, $500,000 above the market value for the house.

‘I live in the middle of five houses (they want to use) and I won’t sell,’ she said.

While nothing has been put in writing, Dorothy says that the ‘sales have been verbally agreed to’ after production was moved from the show’s current base of Melbourne to the celebrity resort town.

Responding to an article in a Byron Bay Facebook group earlier this week, she argued: ‘All of these houses have been substantially renovated in the last two years to a very high standard.’

‘As you can imagine this is very upsetting for me causing stress and sleepless nights.

‘I am 74, a cancer patient under palliative care, I cannot imagine how the 6 months of the construction site will affect me. It is already making me feel sick.’
