Is this the happiest dog in the world? Meet the canine who puts a smile on bin workers’ faces every week – and even has her own Hi Vis vest!

Encountering a cute animal on your way to work can boost your mood and is enough to make anyone smile.

But what if you had a furry friend that was excited to see you every single week?

Maddie, a Golden Retriever from Belfast, is itching to get outside the front door every Friday to see her favourite people – the bin men.

Sat patiently in the front garden, the pup perks up as soon as she hears the bin lorry driving down her street.

Mark, one of the refuse workers on Maddie’s route, told the BBC Northern Ireland: ‘She loves seeing us and waits for us every Friday morning to come round.

‘She scrapes the door until she can get out, she can hear the bin lorry up the street. The build-up to seeing Maddie is unbelievable.’

Maddie, who is two years old and operates under the name @maddiethebad.e on Instagram , even has her own Hi Vis uniform that she wears to fit in with her pals – and recently got a fluffy bin toy.

Nathan, another bin man, told the outlet: ‘This is an old friend. She’s been my friend for a year and a half since she actually came here.

‘[She was] a puppy the first time we saw her, [it’s] just brilliant. She’s just been like this every time.

‘I think she loves everyone, but I think she likes us a wee bit more. She’s got a wee Hi Vis on for us.’

Maddie is also become Instagram famous with 40,000 followers on the platform and has received millions of views on her profile.

She has become a global sensation, racking up comments around the world, including South Korea, Brazil and France.

Maddie’s owner, Katelin Fiddlis has described her joyful pet as a ‘therapy dog for the entire neighbourhood’.

She added: ‘There’s something different about just normal, everyday people interacting with a dog.

‘I think it’s so lovely to see what started off as something that was really innocent and just posting videos of our pet smiling and being happy that actually we are getting comments from people who have said “I’ve had a really hard week and I’ve seen this video of Maddie and it’s changed my outlook and I feel so much better”.’
