Island Boys’ Franky Venegas accused of pretending to be his twin brother Alex in Florida speeding arrest… three years after finding internet fame with viral song

Franky Venegas of the Island Boys pretended he was his twin brother Alex when he was arrested last month in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in connection with reckless driving.

Police said in documents reviewed by TMZ that Franky, 22, was seen speeding behind the wheel of a yellow Corvette Stingray on May 24.

Police said that they saw Franky speed into a parking lot, and received a report that his vehicle and occupants of a nearby gray vehicle were ‘armed with guns,’ the outlet reported.

Police said they responded by turning on their emergency lights on and swarming in, at which point they established contact with Franky.

Franky told officers his name was Alex, police said, adding that they determined he was not being truthful when they saw his state identification card, and ran a background check providing further details.

The background check indicated that Franky did not have a valid driver’s license, officials said.

Franky was subsequently taken into custody at Broward County Jail in connection with reckless driving, driving without a valid license, providing false identification.

Franky was let out of custody May 25 on $800 bond, the ABC Miami affiliate Local10 reported.

Broward County Circuit Judge Deborah Carpenter-Toy has been appointed to oversee the new case, the outlet reported.

At the time of the arrest, Franky, a native of Lake Worth, Florida, was supported by his twin brother Alex, who said, ‘Free him’ in a subsequent TikTok post, according to the outlet.

Franky faced legal troubles last year after he was arrested in Pompano Beach, Florida in connection with a domestic assault on a woman who said she was his girlfriend on May 6, 2023.

A deputy who interviewed the victim said they ‘observed physical marks and bruises on [her] chin, and also on her legs and arms,’ according to the outlet.

The misdemeanor battery case was dropped by prosecutors on May 16, 2023, according to legal records reviewed by Local10.
