Israel Adesanya gave an extraordinary post-right interview on Saturday after reclaiming his UFC middleweight title against Alex Pereira.

‘The Last Stylebender’ produced a brutal second-round knockout to seal a victory over the Brazilian fighter and take back the title that he lost in November last year.

It was the fourth time that the two middleweights had met, their second inside the octagon, and it was the first occasion in which Adesanya has come out on top.

He gave an inspirational speech to fans after the result, as he grabbed the microphone and said: ‘I hope every one of you behind the screens can feel this level of happiness just one time in your life.

‘But guess what: You will never feel this level of happiness if you don’t go for something.

‘When they talk s*** about you, when they put a foot on your neck, and if you stay down, you will never get that result.’

Adesanya had lost his title to Pereira in his previous fight in November, but took it back in style after just five minutes.

He continued: ‘Fortify your mind, and feel this level of happiness once in your life, but I am blessed to be able to feel this s*** again and again and again and again.’

Despite a bitter rivalry that has seen the two fighters clash four times across UFC and kickboxing, Adesanya was gracious about Pereira after the bout, as he added: ‘No matter what, Alex is a great champion, he lost the belt tonight but he will always be a champion.

‘In his story I’m the antagonist. I’m the bad guy, but tonight it’s my story. The hunter has become the hunted.

‘Thank you for beating me, because beating me has made me a better fighter.’

True to his words after the fight, Adesanya’s victory did not come easily on Saturday. Pereira had his opponent on the backfoot in a second room with a flurry of shots pushing him towards the back of the octagon.

‘Stylebender’ quickly recovered, though, as he returned with a brutal right-hand of his own that sent his rival stumbling.

Once he smelt blood, Adesanya ramped up the pressure and quickly landed another crushing right that forced Pereira to the canvas, which led to the fight being waved.
