Henderson’s half-volleyed finish saw the Reds defeat AC Milan 3-2 at Anfield on Wednesday

He said: ‘It was so much like Gerrard.

‘How he stayed over the ball, got the power and technique just right. On the half-volley, it’s a really difficult skill.’

A Fikayo Tomori own goal inside 10 minutes was just reward for Liverpool’s fantastic start.

However, the Italian giants went in at half-time 2-1 up after two goals in three minutes from Ante Rebic and Brahim Diaz against the run of play.

Mohamed Salah – who had earlier seen his penalty saved – equalised just after half-time before Henderson smashed into the bottom corner after a corner was half-cleared to secure a crucial result for his side, who now top Group B with the win.

Fellow pundit Rio Ferdinand added: ‘He leads by example. He drives that team, when they need guidance and calmness.’
