It WON’T be an upset if inexperienced, hit-and-miss Wales lose to Fiji, insists MIKE BROWN in his 2023 Rugby World Cup guide, while Scotland take on world champions South Africa with their best team in 20 years

Following a captivating opening two days of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, the action rolls on to its third day in France on Sunday. 

With the hosts securing an impressive win on Friday night against New Zealand, there has been an onus on the fellow contenders to deliver. 

World No 1 ranked Ireland saw off Romania with ease in Bordeaux on Saturday as they look to claim their first World Cup triumph. 

Steve Borthwick’s England registered a surpirsingly comfortable victory against Pool C rivals Argentina that has left them dreaming of a repeat of their 2003 success. 

Sunday sees both Scotland and Wales get their World Cup campaigns underway.

But Scotland will face a daunting task against World Cup holders South Africa on Sunday

Japan v Chile

12pm, Stadium de Toulouse

It should be pretty straightforward for Japan. I’d love Chile to pick up a win at the World Cup because it would be a great story, but I can’t see it happening. Japan play quick, high tempo. 

That’s been the blueprint of all their big wins because they don’t have the biggest players. Quick ruck speed, using the full width of the pitch, keeping the ball away from contact.

One to watch: Michael Leitch.

South Africa v Scotland

4.45pm, Stade de Marseille

This is the best Scotland team I’ve seen for 20 years but I still don’t think they’ll get out of the group. It’s tough for them because they’d probably win Pool C or D.

South Africa are peaking at the right time. They’re so powerful and no one else has their muscle. Scotland probably have one big game in them and I think it will be against Ireland.

One to watch: Jasper Wiese.

Wales v Fiji

8pm, Stade de Bordeaux

I fancy Fiji to win and I don’t think it can be called an upset after watching them take apart England. They’ve lost their 10, Caleb Muntz, but they’ll have huge confidence. Wales are an inexperienced, hit-and-miss side.

One to watch: Selestino Ravutaumada.
