Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to undergo a medical with Paris Saint-Germain, paving the way for him to join the French giants as a free agent.

The 22-year-old, who was in goal as Italy defeated Turkey 3-0 in the Euro 2020 curtain-raiser at the Stadio Olimpico, made his debut for boyhood club AC Milan in 2015 at the age of just 16.

Donnarumma has since racked up 251 appearances for the Rossoneri, but his time at the club now appears to be coming to a close, according to Football Italia via Sky Sport Italia.

The youngster’s contract at the San Siro expires on 30 June and his future had been the subject of much speculation as club legend and technical director Paolo Maldini struggled to hide his frustration at Donnarumma’s departure as Milan planned for the future with the signing of Lille stopper Mike Maignan.

Donnarumma’s notorious agent Mino Raiola has reportedly agreed the personal terms for the transfer with PSG, who failed to win Ligue 1 for only the third time in the last 11 season as Lille pipped them to the title.

Donnarumma’s medical will happen on Saturday or Sunday while on international duty, meaning he will be available for selection for the Azzurri’s second game of the tournament against Switzerland the following Wednesday.

The career of Donnarumma has been about breaking records, as he became the youngest goalkeeper to appear for both Italy’s Under-21s and the senior team.

The 6’5” stopper has attracted interested from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Roma, whose new boss Jose Mourinho reportedly phoned Donnarumma to discuss his future. 

However, Donnarumma’s mind appears made up and he will join fellow new boy Georginio Wijnaldum at the Parc des Princes next season after the Dutchman signed from Liverpool as his contract at Anfield expires.
