Ivan Juric has reportedly left Southampton after their 3-1 loss to Tottenham confirmed their relegation from the Premier League.

The Croatian won just two and lost 13 of his 16 games at the helm after replacing Russell Martin in late December.

Southampton have suffered the earliest-ever relegation from the top flight after 31 games – one match less than even the infamous Derby County side of 2007-08.

They could yet finish on the lowest-ever points total in the Premier League, as their total of 10 so far is one less than Derby accrued that year.

Sky Sports News reports that Juric has left with immediate effect.

In a sign of how abject their season has become, Juric recently set his players the challenge of not being ‘the worst team in the history of the Premier League.’

After Sunday’s defeat by Tottenham, Juric – whose only Premier League win in 14 attempts came against Ipswich – hit out at the club’s recruitment.

‘Recruitment is everything in football,’ he said. ‘We have a lot of talented young players, but with not many games in the Premier League. What I noticed most in three or four months here is the completely different physicality between us and the other teams in the league.

‘Now is the moment to understand the mistakes the club made in the last three or four years and start to create something really good.’

More to follow.
