Ivan Toney was posed an awkward question by DJ Vick Hope as he presented an award for Producer of the Year at Saturday night’s BRIT Awards.

The Brentford striker’s appearance at the awards evening left some fans on social media confused, with the 27-year-old racing from the west London derby to present drum and bass duo Chase & Status with the award.

Toney had played all 90 minutes of their 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Saturday night, but failed to get on the scoresheet.

It was his eighth appearance since he returned from an eight-month ban for breaching the Football Associations rules on betting, with Toney having scored four times since his return.

Toney had not played for Thomas Frank’s side since the end of last season, after he was suspended by the FA for admitting to 232 breaches of their betting rules.

But on Saturday, there was an awkward moment on stage during the ceremony when introducing the award for Producer of the Year, Hope left Toney stunned.

She said: ‘It’s so good to be here! We’re so pleased to be presenting the BRIT award for Producer of the Year’

Hope then turned to the Brentford striker and said: ‘Ivan, any bets on who it could be?’

The comment seemed to take Toney aback, with the Brentford star, who was stood next to the TV and radio presenter, saying: ‘Damn, too soon too soon.’

Much speculation has revolved around the striker’s future at Brentford, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side having reportedly made Toney their ‘number one target’ despite having recently been linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Arsenal have also expressed an interest in signing the Euros hopeful, who could, if he continues scoring, earn himself a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad to travel to the Euros this summer.

Some fans were left a bit bewildered by Toney’s appearance at the awards, with one writing on X (formerly Twitter ): ‘Ivan Toney is presenting the Brits only a few hours after playing Chelsea today… What a crossover’.

Even Northampton Town commented on his appearance, saying: ‘Ivan Toney has become the first @NTFC_Academy product to present a Brit Award #ShoeArmy #BritAwards’.

Toney, who netted an impressive 20 goals in the Premier League last season, will be back in action next weekend as Brentford face a tricky trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

It comes as the Bees have dropped to 15th in the league standings after a poor run of form that has seen them lose three of their last five matches.
