Ivan Toney LEFT OUT of England’s squad to face Italy in the Nations League… while Marc Guehi, Ben Chilwell, Jordan Henderson and the suspended John Stones also miss out

  • Brentford striker Ivan Toney received his first England call-up last week
  • However, the 26-year-old will have to wait a little longer for his Three Lions debut
  • Jordan Henderson is not involved after only recently returning from injury
  • John Stones was sent off against Hungary in June so is serving a one-match ban

Uncapped striker Ivan Toney has been left out of the England squad to face Italy in the Nations League tonight.

The Brentford striker, 26, received his first Three Lions call-up last week but will have to wait a little longer for his debut.

Marc Guehi, Ben Chilwell and Jordan Henderson also miss out on Gareth Southgate’s 23-man selection for the game in Milan.

Henderson has only just returned from a hamstring injury and was a late call-up to the squad this week after Kalvin Phillips withdrew.

Centre-back John Stones will also not be involved tonight following his red card against Hungary in June.

The news will come as a blow to Toney, who hoped to stake a claim for a place in the World Cup squad after scoring five goals in seven Premier League games this season.

‘I feel like I have full confidence in myself,’ Toney said earlier this week. ‘I never played for any of the other age groups so going straight to the senior squad is a big achievement.

‘It is a massive opportunity for me to get myself on the plane. But I’ve just got to go game by game. Hopefully I’ll get a few minutes in the games we have.’

Following tonight’s game in Milan, the squad’s last chance to impress Southgate before Qatar will be in their final Nations League game against Germany at Wembley on Monday.
