Ivanka Trump has used the U.S. immigration crisis to promote her program to help female Latin American entrepreneurs.
President Donald Trump’s daughter retweeted the April announcement of her $150 million 2X Americas initiative, arguing it was part of the solution.
She spruiked the initiative just days after her father signed an executive order stopping the forcible separation of immigrant children from their parents.
The 36-year-old said ‘fostering stability’ in Central and South America by ‘creating economic opportunity’ would result in fewer people crossing the border.

Ms Trump announced the initiative on April 15 at the Summit of the Americas in Peru
‘Poverty, violence, instability and lack of economic opportunity in parts of Latin America are underlying issues leading to the current immigration crisis, and have been for decades,’ she wrote on Sunday.
Ms Trump added that the U.S. Government ‘was working hard to address these challenges’, holding up 2X Americas as an example.
The program commits $150 million and plans to raise $500 million to give seed funding to female entrepreneurs in Latin America.

Ms Trump spruiked the initiative just days after her father signed an executive order stopping the forcible separation of immigrant children from their parents.
His daughter remained silent on social media throughout the controversy, finally tweeting her support for the executive order last Wednesday.
‘Thank you @POTUS for taking critical action ending family separation at our border,’ she wrote, before calling on Congress to ‘find a lasting solution’.
She said on Sunday 2X Americas would ‘provide women with access to capital, jobs, and opportunities to prosper’.
Ms Trump announced the initiative on April 15 at the Summit of the Americas in Peru along with meetings with the country’s business leaders.

‘We want to work with our private sector partners to marshal the capital needed to finally close this persistent credit gap, so that [for] every dollar we invest, up to three private sector dollars will be mobilized,’ she said at the announcement.
‘2X Americas will empower women in Latin America. And when women succeed, families succeed, communities succeed, and countries succeed.’
The program is run by the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, a U.S. Government agency that helps American business invest in developing countries.
