A travel influencer has vowed he’ll never return to a popular tourist destination after claiming ‘pushy’ sellers and sky-high prices left him with a ‘bad taste’ in his mouth.

The Irish content creator, who goes by the name @therealagnew__ on TikTok, took to the social site to leave a scathing review of his trip to Marmaris, Turkey, in May 2024.

In a video, which has since amassed over 760K views and over 11K comments, he  warned fellow visitors to expect ‘consistent hustle-and-bustle’ and ‘being shouted at’ should they wish to explore the resort town.

The content creator claimed he would ‘never go back’ to Turkey after experiencing unwelcoming and aggressive behaviour from the locals – though he insisted the country itself is ‘pretty nice’ with ‘lots of things to do.’

He explained: ‘Some of the people, how they approach you, it becomes too much.

‘It’s just consistently pushing you and pushing you. To the extent it stars to really get to you and annoy you – which I find very off-putting, to be fair.’

The globetrotter described his frustration at having to ‘respond up to six times’ that he’s ‘not interested’ in items being sold by vendors on streets with ‘maybe 40 shops.’

He said: ‘They’re shouting at you almost like you’re some kind of animal. It put me completely off.’

However, his experience with locals appeared to have not dimmed his outlook on Turkey itself, as he experienced: ‘There are a lot of nice things to see, but unfortunately from what I experienced, it’s just not for me.’

Concluding the video, the influencer added: ‘I’ve been through Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, but Turkey has left a bad taste in my mouth. I’ll probably not come back because of that.’

Over 11,000 viewers shared similar experiences during their trips to popular Turkish hotspots, such as Antalya, Marmaris and Gumbet, in the comments.

One person wrote:, ‘The grand bazar in Marmaris is NOT for the faint hearted. It is relentless but I love Turkey,’ while a second added, ‘I had the same experience.. it would drive you crazy.. they are turning people off going there.’

Another said: ‘We went to Antalya last year and I’ve never felt so uncomfortable in my life. Same thing we was saying no no no so many times a day we ended up spending our last day in our room watching films.’

One former visitor share: ‘Too right mate. Went once and never again. Got abuse for walking out a shop without buying anything,’ while another wrote, ‘I had the same experience in alanya and antalya, nice places with horrible locals.’

However, some disagreed and insisted Turkey can be a ‘lovely’ place if visitors simply ‘ignore’ pestering vendors.

One person wrote: ‘The trick is to totally ignore them unfortunately. The more you try and be civil ,the more hassle you get…’

Another said: ‘I’m just back on Friday from two weeks in Marmaris, my first time in turkey and I loved it, I just ignored them and walked on.’

It comes after one TikToker shared five essential travel tips for those visiting Turkey.

The 28-year-old mother is quite the jet setter, and has ventured everywhere from Ibiza, Amsterdam and Barcelona to Dubai and Qatar.

Now, the South African TikToker has turned her attention to Turkey, warning her 172,000 followers to be on the lookout for potential scams.

Aaliya Adam told her followers they should always pay in Turkish Lira when visiting the country.

She explained: ‘There are a lot of scams, when I mean scams it is absolutely out of hand like they change prices in front of you and they don’t want to take the Turkish Lira.’
