Jack Whitehall has revealed his girlfriend Roxy Horner collapsed at the Brit Awards last year while he was hosting the ceremony.

The model and actress, 31, revealed that she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes back in 2021.

But before she was diagnosed, Roxy had a health scare and had to be resuscitated by paramedics.

Jack told The Sun: ‘We found out she had diabetes the night I was hosting the Brits. She had something called a diabetic hypo and she fainted.

‘Paramedics were trying to resuscitate her and her sugar levels were spiking dangerously.

A hypo, also called hypoglycaemia, is a low blood sugar level, and happens when the level of sugar (glucose) in blood drops too low.

People who struggle with diabetes need daily injections of insulin to keep your blood glucose levels under control.

What is Type 1 Diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes causes the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood to become too high.

It happens when your body cannot produce enough of a hormone called insulin, which controls blood glucose.

You need daily injections of insulin to keep your blood glucose levels under control.

Managing type 1 diabetes can take time to get used to, but you can still do all the things you enjoy. This guide is here to help.

Type 1 diabetes is not linked with age or being overweight – these things are linked with type 2 diabetes.

A low blood sugar level can be dangerous and cause brain death if it’s not treated quickly.

Roxy now wears an electronic device which monitors her blood glucose level and sends a message and alarm to her and others phones when it is dangerously low.

She previously admitted to having a ‘rough time’ with the condition as she struggled to handle her glucose levels.

Opening up to her 199k Instagram followers, she explained: ‘I’ve been having a really rough time managing my glucose levels the past few weeks, they are yo-yoing for absolutely no reason.

‘I throw up when I go too high and I’ve had a few too many hypos for my liking lately.

Back in March, Roxy praised Jack for being her ‘rock’ amid her Type 1 diabetes diagnosis.

‘Jack’s been my absolute rock, he’s so lovely. He was there when I got diagnosed. My parents and my family live in Australia, so he has been my family. We’re amazing,’ she told The Sun.

She explained to the publication how her symptoms got worse during the pandemic, pushing her to seek medical advice.

‘I felt extremely tired and exhausted for a long time, I had no energy. I couldn’t even go for a walk, it was draining, I felt like I was dying. I was drinking four to eight litres of water a day,’ she recalled.

Despite ‘knowing something was really wrong’ with her body and visiting the doctors on numerous occasions, Roxy was not tested for diabetes due to not fitting the criteria.

The model took herself to A&E out of desperation, where she was finally diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes – which causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high.

It comes after Jack revealed his romance with Roxy got off to an awkward start because of his choice of venue on their first date.

He told the Mail On Sunday that he was unaware that Roxy was vegan and took her on a first date to a Chinese restaurant decorated with dead ducks.

The comedian explained that they then went on to a bar, which had a taxidermy theme.

‘It was like something out of a sitcom,’ Jack joked.
