Jackie ‘O’ Henderson weighs in on Elle Macpherson’s controversial cancer treatment after model refused chemotherapy

Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has weighed in on Elle Macpherson’s controversial breast cancer battle, after the model claimed to have holistically treated her disease.

The supermodel, 60, received backlash when she revealed in her memoir she shunned the medical advice of 32 doctors and chose wellness methods to treat her cancer – which was likely removed during a lumpectomy seven years ago.

And on Thursday morning, Jackie invited guest Dr Sam Hay onto KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show to slam Elle’s shocking claims and urge fans not to follow in the WelleCo founder’s footsteps.

‘[Elle] is an exception to the rule. I urge people not to listen to the loud voices of celebrities. Listen to your medical team around you,’ Dr Sam said.

Jackie then asked, ‘What did she do? What was part of her holistic treatment?’ to which Dr Sam responded: ‘I’m not sure that she’s said.’

At this point, co-host Kyle Sandilands jumped in with: ‘How can you poo poo it if you don’t even know?’

‘It’s like just being completely clean, Zen, all of that. You’re treating your body as a temple,’ Jackie explained.

Dr Sam added: ‘Doing lots of meditation, eating blueberries, yoga, reiki.’

‘Is that it? Does that cure cancer?’ Kyle asked.

But Dr Sam insisted: ‘Well it might make you feel good, and it might help with some of the symptoms, but it’s not proven on the whole to cure cancer.’

Elle was diagnosed with HER2 positive oestrogen receptive intraductal carcinoma – a type of breast cancer, after undergoing a lumpectomy seven years ago.

However, instead of seeking traditional medical treatment, the Australian model went with a ‘holistic’ approach and is now in remission.

Elle has since been branded ‘shockingly irresponsible’ for treating her condition with a ‘heart-led holistic approach’, shunning the advice of 32 doctors.

Medics suggested a mastectomy with radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, plus reconstruction of her breast to prevent the cancer from returning after her lumpectomy.

But Elle decided to go down the route of unconventional treatment and enlisted a group of specialists to create a plan that ‘addressed emotional as well as physical factors associated with breast cancer’.

The model rented a house in Phoenix, Arizona and spent eight months there, with regular visits from two therapists, a chiropractor, holistic dentist and a doctor who claims she cured her own cervical cancer using juice cleanses and a ‘detox’.

Elle is now in clinical remission, meaning she has no signs and symptoms of the disease.
