Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence ‘avoids season-ending injury’

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence will not be ruled out for the remainder of the season following his exit from their loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Monday night. 

The signal caller was left writhing in pain on the turf after his own teammate walker Little appeared to step back onto him before his own bodyweight then appeared to force his ankle to twist further. 

Lawrence left the field helped by two trainers and immediately went for x-rays with the initial fears that he had, at the very least, sprained his ankle. 

But following further tests on Tuesday, it was revealed that he had managed to avoid a season-ending injury, according to NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe. 

Lawrence reportedly refused to use a cart and tried his best to walk off following the injury before trying to stand on the ankle in the locker room and ultimately leaving in a walking boot with the use of crutches.

Lawrence beat the turf in dismay after trying and failing to walk on his injured ankle 

After Lawrence initially went down twisting his ankle, Bengals player Trey Hendrickson fell on top of him, inadvertently compounding the injury further. 

Lawrence at first stayed down in pain, tried to get up and then crumpled back to the ground and threw his helmet to the floor and punched the turf.

The Jaguars said he was questionable to return with around three minutes left in the game but he didn’t return. Lawrence was clearly done for the night as he was filmed wincing in pain trying to move down the tunnel. 

To add insult to injury for Lawrence, his team would go on and lose the game 34-31 to the Bengals in overtime.

Lawrence is on his first Jaguars contract after being drafted in 2021 and his current four-year deal is worth $37million. 

The Jaguars headed into Monday night’s game 8-3 for the season with seven wins from their last eight. But if Lawrence is anywhere near as badly hurt as he looked, it would be enough to derail their hopes for the rest of the campaign. 

It is currently unclear how long Lawrence will be out for and if he will be back for the playoffs or before.
