Jake Gyllenhaal plays a fiercely resilient survivor of the Boston Marathon Bombing in his new film Stronger.

And on the star hit the red carpet of the Rome Film Festival besides real-life survivor Jeff Bauman, the man whose life and memoir inspired the film.

The 36-year-old actor looked handsome while posing besides the brave double-amputee, who was dapper in a suit which displayed his state-of-the-art prosthetic legs.

Jake was sharp in a black suit paired with matching tie and shiny shoes as he hit the red carpet with survivor Jeff Bauman, the real star of the evening.

He left his chiseled jaw covered with a wash of stubble while brushing his dark locks backwards.

The Academy Award nominated actor rounded out his look with a pair of shiny dress shoes on bottom.

Last week, the Ivy League alum opened about his role during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, where he called the experience ‘life changing.’

The star, who also helped produced the film under the banner of his company Nine Stories Productions, explained how the film gave him ‘perspective on what’ his craft as an actor.

He credits real-life survivor Jeff Bauman for helping him put things into perspective, revealing how the author ‘pointed out the absurdity of what I do, but also the importance of [it].’

In early October, Bauman shared a touching piece about his life and recovery with Time, entitled ‘How Jake Gyllenhaal and Stronger Helped Me Recover.’

‘On September 12, we premiered Stronger at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston,’ wrote the survivor, ‘When the lights dimmed, I felt really vulnerable… there are parts of this story that aren’t pretty, and I just wanted to make everyone proud.’

He continued further down in the piece, writing: ‘If I can lay my head down tonight and know that some kid in the middle of the country who is going through a battle of his own can watch [the film] and feel better… then it was all worth it.’

Stronger is currently in theaters throughout the US and UK.
