Jake Gyllenhaal looks every bit the hunky fisherman while joking that he got his boating knowledge from ‘watching Pirates Of The Caribbean’
Jake Gyllenhaal shared some behind-the-scenes snaps from his latest Prada Fragrance campaign where he stepped into the role of a worldly explorer via green screen.
The 40-year-old actor joked: ‘Learned almost everything I know about boating from filming the #PradaLunaRossaOceanFragrance campaign film…The rest I learned from watching Pirates of the Caribbean.’
Having previously confessed however to having some level of sailing knowledge prior to the campaign, in the series of images he was also pictured enjoying his weekend fishing on a boat.
Fake it til you make it! The actor was seen fishing on a boat and jokingly cited his role as a worldly explorer for his Prada fragrance campaign as qualified experience, as well as watching Pirates Of The Caribbean
In a series of images shared to Instagram, the Donnie Darko actor donned a stylish Prada windbreaker and a grey beanie as well as proper sailing pants and deck shoes, while enjoying a day on the ocean.
However in his campaign film (which was directed by Johan Renck and released in August), he was barred from actually steering the ship so the whole thing was done in green screen.
In his photo dump he shared some of those behind the scenes images shot on a sound stage as well, which he humorously cited as qualified experience.
Great outdoors: Gyllenhaal did express high hopes for being able to sail the boat used in the campaign at some point but said ‘I’ll probably never be able to for insurance reasons or something’
Jake had spoken about his frustration at not being able to steer the ship used in the film despite having an adequate level of sailing knowledge, in conversation with Vanity Fair. ‘I do sail, but I could not sail that to save my life!,’ he said of the shoot.
‘But—I’ll share a secret, and this is my only reason to really do all of this—I really hope I can sail on that boat at some point. I’ll probably never be able to for insurance reasons or something. Not because of me, because of the boat! You don’t want to mess up the boat.’
In that same interview he had famously talked about his stance on hygiene, sharing that he found bathing to be ‘less necessary,’ and said that we as humans ‘naturally clean ourselves.’
Movie magic: Despite looking every bit the seasoned voyager in the images, he confessed that he could not steer the boat used in the campaign video and the whole thing was shot on green screen
On film: As the face of the outdoorsy scent inspired by the Italian sailing team, Jake was tapped to star in a short film for the fragrance directed Johan Renck, which was released in August
Shortcomings: ‘I do sail, but I could not sail that to save my life!,’ he said of failing to steer the ship while playing an explorer for the Prada Luna Rossa Ocean Fragrance film
‘More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times. I do believe…that good manners and bad breath get you nowhere, so I do that. But I do also think that there’s a whole world of not bathing that is also really helpful for skin maintenance, and we naturally clean ourselves.’
After the statements made waves he attempted to clarify that he meant to be ‘sarcastic’ about the matter, during a Q+A at a screening for his film The Guilty.
‘I don’t know what it was. I answered a question where I was being sarcastic and ironic, and it’s followed me around,’ he said. Unfortunately, I showered before I came here, So…I’m sorry.’
Setting the record straight: Following his Vanity Fair interview during which he said ‘I find bathing to be less necessary, at times’ he attempted to clarify that he meant to be ‘sarcastic’ about the matter, during a Q+A at a screening for his film The Guilty; pictured at The Guilty screening in LA on September 18
