Jake Paul claims heavyweight boxing is a ‘shambles’ and calls on Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk to be ‘better’ before slamming promoters for ‘blocking’ big fights
- Jake Paul has hit out at the heavyweight division for failing to make big fights
- He said that Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk must do better
- Paul said the top heavyweights in the division must ‘stop ducking each other’
Jake Paul has hit out at the heavyweight division and called on the likes of Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk to ‘make the sport a better place’ by confirming big fights.
Boxing fans across the world have grown frustrated with the lack of movement in the heavyweight division – with high-profile bouts such as Fury’s undisputed clash with Usyk falling by the wayside.
Joshua’s Battle of Britain clash with the Gypsy King was another highly anticipated bout that failed to materialise, while reports are stating AJ’s Saudi Arabian bout with Deontay Wilder is also under threat.
Paul – like the rest of the boxing world – has grown frustrated with their inability to confirm fights and told the likes of AJ, Fury and Usyk to ‘stop ducking each other’ in a furious outburst.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer, who praised other divisions are creating desirable fights such as Errol Spence vs Terence Crawford, also blamed the promoters for ‘blocking’ big fights from happening.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Paul: ‘For me the heavyweight division’s in shambles. The heavyweight division right now is the only division that’s not stepping up to the plate and making the big fights happen.
‘The lightweight division’s doing it, obviously Errol Spence vs Terence Crawford [at welterweight]. But for some reason in the heavyweight division we’re not getting it.
‘We’re not getting Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua, we’re not getting Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk, we’re not getting Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder, we’re not getting Deontay Wilder vs Andy Ruiz.
‘Like, what are these guys doing? Come on, let’s make the sport a better place. You guys get paid to fight, so get in there and stop ducking each other.’
The YouTuber-turned-boxer went on to add: ‘Honestly a lot of the times it goes back to the promoters in boxing blocking everything and wanting to make the most money, and who owns the rights to air the content on what platform.
‘A lot of times it’s DAZN vs Showtime vs ESPN and it’s all these big parties that get involved. But it’s up to the fighters to say, “No, let’s push this forward, let’s make this happen regardless of all these crazy things going on.”
‘That’s why I give a lot of props to Ryan Garcia, because he was the reason the Gervonta Davis fight happened. He compromised a lot to make it work.’
Paul is set to fight next against Diaz on August 5 in Texas and has also been trying to secure a rematch against Tommy Fury, after losing to him earlier this year.
