James Marsden dons a sheriff uniform on Sonic The Hedgehog set

He plays a robot slave who isn’t too happy about being a robot slave in Westworld.

So James Marsden will get to exact revenge against Dr Robotnik in the lead role of the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie.

The 44-year-old was spotted for the first time in character on the Burnaby, Canada set on Monday.

The actor plays Tom Wachowski, a sheriff, and thus was dressed head to toe in the brown uniform.

The star looked razor sharp in the dark brown slacks, light brown shirt sleeved shirt, sheriff’s hat and aviators as the cameras rolled.

But he allowed himself a bit more of a relaxed look between takes, opening and untucking his shirt and ditching the hat.

The film, due in 2019, will be a mix of live action and CGI.

Jim Carrey will play Sonic’s nemesis, Dr ‘Eggman’ Robotnik, a mad scientist who enslaves animals in his robotic army.

The only other cast member confirmed is Gossip Girl’s Tika Sumpter, in an as-yet-unnamed role.

Details are scant on the plot so far; it is unknown if any other characters from the Sonic universe — such as his friends, Tails, Knuckle or Amy — will feature.

While Sega no longer makes consoles and is now a third party games developer, Sonic remains a pop culture icon; his games have shifted more than 350million units worldwide, and he has spawned five animated TV series to date.
