James Watt has revealed how he lost £150,000 while gaining a wife in Georgia Toffolo, as couple opened up on their need to keep adding to their already eye-watering multimillion pound fortune.

The BrewDog co-founder, 42, and the Made in Chelsea star, 30, began dating in 2023, before tying the knot in a low key ceremony in March this year.

While this week, it was revealed that the newlyweds are worth a staggering £425 million, according to The Sunday Times, overtaking the likes of Ed Sheeran, Lord Sainsburys, Harry Styles and Lewis Hamilton.

Following their placing at 304 on the publication’s Rich List, the couple opened up to the The Sunday Times on their relationship, where they both insisted that they couldn’t rest on their fortune and needed to keep making money.

Reflecting on how they came to fall for each other, James revealed that their first date came about as a result of one of his ‘worst-ever investments’ that cost him £150,000.

He recalled: ‘Georgia is the outcome of one of my worst-ever investments. I have a portfolio of about 20 small businesses and one of them fell by the wayside, but the founder of that business knew Georgia and set us up. So I may have lost £150,000 but I gained a wife. Maybe it was my best investment ever?’

Explaining her attraction to James, Georgia said that her type is ‘powerful, successful men’ and while giving an insight into their marriage, she admitted the couple ‘talk about work constantly’.

She went on to insist that, despite having her eye-watering nine-figure net worth, she has to be constantly working to bring in more money, because she is ‘brilliant at spending’ it.

She confessed: ‘I do have to keep working and earning all the time because I’m brilliant at spending money. James is good at saving and planning for the future but that’s not something that ever comes to my mind.’

While James admitted that he is also obsessed with continuing to grow his millions, saying: ‘No matter how much I’ve achieved, or how much money I’ve made, I’m always thinking: what’s next?’

It comes after Georgia shocked fans after revealing her and James’ currently empty joint bank account, as she hit back at accusations she was only with the businessman for his money.

In an Instagram Q&A she responded to a question about whether she was a golddigger by sharing a screenshot of the pair’s current account balance of £0.

The reality star said: ‘Going off the state of our joint bank account, on balance I would say probably not. What do you think?’

While on Saturday, Georgia admitted she ‘can’t bear to be apart’ from James, as she took to Instagram with a gushing birthday tribute to her husband.

Speaking over a series of videos of the pair looked smitten while enjoying trips away, the I’m A Celeb star gushed: ‘Happy birthday to the love of my life.

‘Before I met James I’d heard about this wild, crazy, brilliant but totally unstoppable businessman – but what I found when I met him was something much better than that.

‘You are kind, you are gentle, so beautiful through and through and I still can’t quite believe that we are married.’

She added: ‘The life that we’re building together, the calm and sense of peace in our family, I’ve never had this and I feel so very grateful.

‘Since we got married on March the first, something has really shifted. I feel more safe and more held than ever. You support me in so many ways that I struggle to explain. You know I can’t bear to be apart from you. You just make me feel so safe.

The pair got engaged in October after the James proposed with an exquisite eight carat triple-diamond studded band estimated to be worth £200,000 during a romantic getaway in Greece for Georgia’s 30th birthday.

However when it came to the ceremony the couple kept it incredibly low key with the guests only having day’s notice to attend.

Georgia and James said ‘I do’ onboard a fishing boat just off the coast of the picturesque town of Gardenstown in Aberdeenshire.

Sharing snaps of their special and unique day, she revealed she travelled to the church in a transit van and held some daffodils freshly picked last minute in the morning.

The newlyweds settled their pre-wedding nerves with a slice of jam on toast and a cup of tea in James’ granny’s kitchen before heading to church.

Georgia even revealed she created her wedding look in just 10 minutes after sharing a behind the scenes getting ready routine with fans.

The star revealed even her makeup was a ‘slap dash’ affair as she managed to do her face in just five and a half minutes and her whole look in 10.

She penned: ‘I did my own wedding makeup…in 10 minutes lol and honestly, WHAT A BRILLIANT DECISION.’

Meanwhile James even re-wore the same suit he wore for his first wedding to his former wife Johanna Basford to be ‘sustainable’.

Revealing her plans for the food prior to the wedding she confessed they would be having ‘sausage rolls’ and ‘James’ Granny’s rice pudding’.

She added: ‘I think I need to plan the most unconventional, weird, whacky wedding that everyone looks at and thinks ‘Has she gone mental?’ because I think that is what we want.’

Following the wedding the pair embarked on a three-day honeymoon in Scotland and explained they had kept things low-key since the wedding – with their lives going straight back to ‘normal’.

‘We’re staying in Scotland because we love it up here!’ she explained in a post.

Georgia continued: ‘We are so excited to just relax as the past few weeks have been so intense for James and I. We’re not going to be doing anything insane or crazy.’

Back in January, James revealed he would in fact marry Georgia this year after asking his followers on social media whether he should ‘take the tax-relief hit’ or postpone his marriage for three years.

In December, the business mogul asked his 427,000 LinkedIn followers if he should put off the nuptials for three years as to not miss out on tax relief.

Marrying Toff before then would make him a ‘connected person’ in her raw dog food business, Wild Pack, after he invested in the company this year which would make him ineligible for the EIS tax relief.

But James revealed to MailOnline in January they had already set a date in 2025 for their wedding and picked the venue, which they are keeping under wraps for now.

Regarding his LinkedIn post, he said: ‘I thought it was so clear to everyone I was joking because of the tone and the laughing face I put. I was poking fun at how silly the tax rules are and everyone thought it was a serious thing.

‘The tax saving was going to be less than £5,000, so it definitely wasn’t something I would consider postponing a wedding for 36 months over.’

Sharing an update on the planning process via Instagram last month, Georgia told her 1.8 million fans the wedding would have taken place the month after their engagement if she had found a dress.

‘We are both incredibly impatient people desperate to waltz down the aisle,’ she said, adding they will get married ‘very quickly’ when she does find the perfect gown.

She then filmed a clip with her fiancé and asked him: ‘If I find the dress of dreams today when can we get married?’

To which he replied: ‘Let’s say next weekend,’ as she added: ‘We’re not even joking though.’
