‘Please don’t cry,’ Schmeichel told Carragher at half-time before watching on as Neymar played a crucial role in both of PSG’s late goals.

The forward set up defender Marquinhos to score the equaliser before playing an exquisite pass to Kylian Mbappe who supplied the cross for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to grab the winning goal.

And the former Liverpool man could hardly contain is delight, jumping out of his chair before aiming a dig Schmeichel’s way.

The pundit shouted: ‘What’s Neymar done now, Schmeichel?!’ Only set the two of them up! Stick to goalkeeping!’

But Schmeichel stood by his original analysis, claiming Neymar’s team-mate Mbappe was the forward who changed the game.

‘You know a little bit about football,’ the Dane said in response to Carragher’s jibe.

‘I have to say I’m trying to compare him to players of the likes of [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi, [Diego] Maradona, [Robert] Lewandowski and actually Mbappe.

‘I think he changed the game. I don’t think Neymar was brilliant.

‘But I’m so happy for you [Carragher] that you are happy that I was wrong. Let me just remind you, that you are out on your brackets – I had PSG! Forgot that?’

Neymar’s side will meet either Atletico Madrid or RB Leipzig in the semi-final next week.
