Jamie Carragher claims Arsenal do NOT have what it takes to win title this season after Newcastle defeat – and pinpoints two key positions where they are falling short

After a hard fought 1-0 defeat on the road at St James Park, Mikel Arteta’s side walked away empty-handed.

The match was full of VAR-checks and controversies in what was tipped to be a hotly-contested clash, and boss Arteta raged after the match at the ’embarrassing’ display from officials.

Speaking after the game, pundits Izzy Christiansen and Jamie Carragher questioned Arsenal’s title chances as the Gunners faced their first loss of the season at St James Park today.

Former WSL title-winner Christiansen said: ‘I don’t think Arsenal created enough today. Newcastle wanted it more, they created the better chances. We didn’t talk about Saka and Martinelli.

‘City have the likes of Grealish, Doku who can rotate. That might be the solution having that target player they might adapt that style.

Carragher echoed her words: ‘Have Arsenal got a centre forward and a goalkeeper to win the league? I don’t think they have.

‘For me Ramsdale’s not going to win the league. Raya is all over the place.

After signing Brentford keeper David Raya on loan for the season, the Spaniard has evidently taken precedent over Ramsdale, the Arsenal Number 1.

Despite some shaky performances, Raya’s new-found position as the first-choice keeper has been cemented in the Gunners’ teamsheets.

On £105million signing Declan Rice: ‘Bringing Rice in improves it, it doesn’t seem fluid, players were playing out of their skin last season’ said former Liverpool star Carragher.

‘Teams have figured out how to play against them. I think teams have figured out how to stifle them. When Arsenal get to the final third they always look to cut back, teams are getting more organised.’ Christiansen added.

With Gabriel Jesus on the sidelines with injury, Martin Odegaard was also deemed unfit to play, alongside an injured Thomas Partey. Arsenal’s injury woes are mounting at an early point in the season as Eddie Nketiah has had to step up to fill the Brazilian’s boots.

The Arsenal number nine role has belonged to Jesus, though the Brazilian’s injury list has caused the North Londno club a number of troubles when it comes to replacements.
