Jamie Carragher declares fellow Sky pundit Roy Keane as the ‘master with one line’

‘He can KILL someone, finish someone off’: Jamie Carragher crowns fellow pundit Roy Keane as the ‘master with one line’ and believes ex-Man United hardman’s savage takedowns of top stars keeps Sky Sports colleagues on their toes

Jamie Carragher insists Roy Keane is ‘the master with one line’ and believes his colleague’s savage takedowns as a pundit makes him the best in the business.

Ex-Manchester United hardman Keane is notorious for offering withering assessments of Premier League stars when working as a TV pundit.

At the weekend he described Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker as an ‘idiot’, called Sergio Aguero ‘overweight’ and previously said he would ‘swing punches’ at United pair David de Gea and Harry Maguire following a draw away at Tottenham.

Speaking on Walker, Keane told Sky Sports: ‘Mane is up against an idiot. People think Kyle Walker is playing well. I don’t think so, he keeps making mistakes.

‘He’s an international, 30-years-old and he’s a car crash.’

He then continued to lay the boot in on Walker after the match, adding: ‘It was daft and crazy defending but then it’s the second part when he dangles his leg, he knows he’s going to give away a penalty.

‘I’ve watched him over the years and I think he’s got that in his locker; that daftness to make idiotic decisions. And when he compounded his first mistake with the second one I wasn’t that bit surprised.’

Carragher feels that Keane has mastered this aggressive and direct style and is untouchable in being the best in the business when it comes to offering up these savage takedowns.

‘I think he’s a delight on Sky, one of the best pundits out there,’ Carragher told talkSPORT.

‘He’s the master with one line. Kills someone, finishes someone off. That’s Roy Keane’s style and he’s the best at it.

‘When you work with people like that it keeps you on your toes. You have a team and everyone brings something different.’

Keane, who first worked with Carragher on ITV, earned a reputation as one of the game’s toughest competitors as a player, often producing the hardest tackles and the fiercest rebukes to rivals on and off the pitch.

Little has been lost of that since entering the world of punditry and Carragher opened up on what it is actually like working with a man who is so universally feared.

Carragher was quizzed on his first meeting with Keane at Sky and whether he had any jitters at approaching the Irishman.

‘I don’t get intimidated by people normally, I just be myself,’ Carragher explained.

‘I remember I went down to breakfast and he was there on his own. I sat with him for an hour talking football and you know what? You hear stories about players all the time, people say they are a hot head, they are this and that, and I meet them and they are fine.

‘He doesn’t drink. He came on the Christmas night out with Sky but didn’t drink. He is a tea man, but he came in and got involved.’
