Jamie Durie reveals plans for his $2.3million northern beaches mansion have been APPROVED – after complaints by neighbours

Jamie Durie has revealed the plans for his $2.3 million mansion in Sydney’s northern beaches have been given the green light, after his garden prompted a wave of complaints from neighbours.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph this week, Jamie revealed the plans were given approval in March.

‘The DA for our new home was approved in March this year and due to start in coming weeks,’ he said.

Jamie went on to say council has asked for further information on his garden at the back of the house.

‘Separately council have asked me for more information on a garden built three years ago,’ he added.

‘I built the rear garden first to allow the native vegetation to grow in before we demolished and excavated the house because that’s the most environmentally responsible thing to do.’

Jamie is planning to transform his waterfront lot at Avalon Beach by knocking down the 1960s four-bedroom cottage. A move heavily criticised by locals.

The celebrity horticulturalist, who has planted 2000 native trees on the property, has dismissed the latest complaints as a case of ‘garden envy’.

The current dispute was triggered over Durie’s building of a retaining wall, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The construction was ‘undocumented’, according to the Northern Beaches council. Durie has since submitted a new building application.

Meanwhile, the council announced on its website that ‘action has been placed on hold pending council’s determination of the application’.

The former Manpower stripper says the council has been supportive of his plans.

‘I’m continuing to do the rest of the build on the the garden portion on the lower half of the property before the house because that is the most sustainable thing to do before we excavate,’ he said.

An earlier development for Durie’s six-bedroom home sparked community outrage when it was revealed the Masked Singer finalist planned to remove 17 native trees.

There were further complaints that Durie’s ‘fatally flawed’ proposal was over-developed and threatened the natural environment, including a neighbouring colony of micro bats.

According to the report, Durie has modified his plans, reducing the scale of the new home to four bedrooms. He says he now plans to only remove two native trees.

It comes after Durie announced plans to have another child with his fiancée Ameka Jane, 35. The couple are parents to one-year-old daughter Beau.
