Jamie Foxx’s daughter Corinne Foxx reveals they celebrated her engagement in his room at a physical rehab center amid his illness

Newlywed Corinne Foxx shared some of the details of how her engagement plans changed when her father Jamie Foxx faced his medical emergency in April 2023.

Her now-husband Joe Hooten had planned to propose in Ireland, but the couple found themselves at Foxx’s bedside in Chicago while he recovered.  

‘Little did I know that Joe had changed his plans so he could still propose on the same day — just in a different city,’ she said in a new interview for Vogue.  

‘He flew in my mom from Los Angeles and had my aunts hiding in a bush FaceTiming my dad the entire time,’ she explained. 

‘He even planned a very special post-engagement party in my dad’s room [at a physical rehabilitation center] in Chicago. It was a small celebration, but it was so intimate and meaningful.’

Last month, the loved up couple married at Jamie’s Los Angeles home and the Jamie Foxx Show star walked his daughter down the aisle.

Corinne chose a meaningful song for the father-daughter moment.

‘I walked down to a strings version of Georgia On My Mind by Ray Charles. My dad won his Oscar for playing [Ray] in 2005,’ the bride explained.

Corinne attended the Academy Awards with her father when he won the Best Actor awards for his portrayal of Ray Charles. 

‘At 10 years old, I was his plus one and got to share that special moment with him. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when we came down the aisle,’ she gushed.

‘It was incredibly special, considering his health scare last year,’ Corinne said.

‘We always knew we’d get married in my dad’s backyard,’ she said. ‘He has the most gorgeous property. It already looks like a wedding venue. 

‘We couldn’t think of anywhere more special than a home wedding. It just felt right.’

At the time, no one knew what the 56-year-old Ray actor’s prognosis was and Corinne simply said her father had a ‘medical complication’ and was ‘ on his way to recovery’

Corinne spent the summer in Chicago to be near her father as he recovered

The wedding party lasted util 4am with guests dancing and enjoying themselves. 

Corinne and Joe met in 2018 while students at the University of Southern California. He was roommates with one of her friends from high school.

‘I always had a big crush on Joe,’ Corinne, said, saying they didn’t start dating until years later.

‘I liked an old photo of Joe’s on Instagram and he DMed me right away,’ she said. ‘Our first date was on a sailboat, where Joe was living at the time.’
