Thousands of workers are set to lose their jobs after Jamie Oliver announced his restaurant chain has gone into administration today.

The celebrity chef’s restaurant chain Jamie’s Italian has appointed administrators, putting as many as 1,300 jobs at risk, it has been announced today.

Mr Oliver said today: ‘I am deeply saddened by this outcome and would like to thank all of the staff and our suppliers who have put their hearts and souls into this business for over a decade.

‘I appreciate how difficult this is for everyone affected.’

Jamie’s Italian, which opened its first restaurant in 2008, was struggling with debts of £71.5million and teetered on the edge of bankruptcy in 2017 before the chef injected £12.7million of his savings into the business.

In 2018 the chain said it would close 12 sites and more than 600 people lost their jobs.

Jamie’s Italian chain and his other venues have now lined up KPMG to handle an insolvency process.
