It comes after Aussie cinematographer Greig Fraser won his first Oscar.

The Australian film technician, 46, snagged the Best Cinematography statue on Monday for his work on the big budget sci-fi epic, Dune.

In his sweet acceptance speech the filmmaker thanked his wife and children, and also apologised to his mum for missing her call.

Fraser began by admitting he needed a drink after the build up to his big moment.

‘Listen, I am so happy this award is up early so I can get out and get to the bar, but I will keep it short for that reason,’ he said from the stage of the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

He then went on to thank the film’s Canadian director, Denis Villeneuve.

‘Denis, master. He has brought a whole group of unknown actors together to make an amazing movie, along with our lovely producer, thank you.’

The Melbourne-born artist said he would call his crew later to thank them personally, before adding, ‘and speaking of calling, mum, I will return your call and I apologise.’

He signed off his speech with a thank you to his wife, costume designer Jody Fried.

He also thanked ‘my children Felix, Leo and Poppy, for allowing a middle aged man to go out and play with his friends in the sand dunes for six months.’

‘I will be home in time for dinner. Thank you guys,’ he concluded.
