Ja’net DuBois has died at the age of 74 at her home in Glendale, California.

The actress, who played Willona Woods on the sitcom Good Times in the seventies, died unexpectedly in her sleep overnight, TMZ reported.

Ja’net, who has three children, was most recently seen at a fan event a few weeks ago and had not complained of any ailments recently.

It is unknown who discovered her body on Tuesday morning.

In addition to Good Times, Ja’net has appeared in a variety of films including Tropic Thunder, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and I’m Gonna Get You Sucka.

She is also the composer and singer behind the theme song for The Jeffersons, called Movin’ On Up.

Ja’net won two Emmy Awards for her voice-over work on The PJs – in 1999 and 2001.

She was born Jeannette Dubois on August 5, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York.

She began her career on Broadway, where she starred in a number of plays, including A Raisin In The Sun and Golden Boy with Louis Gossett Jr. and Sammy Davis Jr. 

Her first TV part came in 1951 as Loretta Allen on the series Love of Life; her first film role was A Man Called Adam in 1966.

She received a Peabody Award for her role in the 1969 CBS children’s movie J.T.
