Jars of preserved human TONGUES found in crawlspace of Florida home

Jars of preserved human TONGUES dating back 50 years are found hidden in the crawl space of a house that used to belong to University of Florida oral medicine professor

  • Jars of preserved human tongues were discovered in a crawlspace under the floorboards of a Gainesville, Florida home 
  • The tongues were found stored in gallon-size jars labelled with a name and date
  • At least one of those jars dates back to the 1960s

Jars of preserved human remains were found in the crawlspace under the floorboards of a Florida home that once belonged to a university professor. 

The jars were discovered during an inspection of the home’s foundation in Gainesville’s Brywood neighborhood off NW 16th Avenue. 

Investigators say some of the jars contain human tongues.  

Each jar is labelled with a name and date and at least one of those jars dates back to the 1960s, according to WCJB.

Investigators are now trying to determine if the jars are connected to research of the home’s previous owner Dr. Ronald A Baughman, a former University of Florida researcher and current professor emeritus.

He was hired as an assistant professor of oral medicine in the 1971, according to UF’s College of Dentistry.

Gainesville Police is looking into the possibility that the human remains were related to Dr. Baughman’s research and he brought them home.
