Jason Aldean cancels concerts after Las Vegas massacre

Jason Aldean announced he was cancelling upcoming shows Tuesday after being onstage as the Las Vegas concert massacre broke out.

The 40-year-old country singer took to Twitter to announce the cancellation of shows scheduled for this weekend in Los Angeles, San Diego and Anaheim, while Jennifer Lopez canceled shows this week in Las Vegas.

‘As a result of what happened in Las Vegas this week, we have decided to cancel this coming weekend’s shows. I feel like out of respect for the victims, their families and our fans, it is the right thing to do,’ Aldean tweeted to his nearly 3.5 million followers on Twitter.

The Georgia native was headlining the Route 91 Harvest country music festival Sunday in Las Vegas when Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire at concertgoers from an upper-floor room at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

Aldean was the closing act and started singing When She Says Baby when rapid automatic gunfire erupted forcing him to flee the stage. 

At least 59 people were killed and 527 wounded in the worst mass shooting in US history before Paddock shot and killed himself.

‘It has been an emotional time for everyone involved in this week, so we plan to take some time to mourn the ones we have lost and be close with our family and friends,’ Aldean tweeted.

‘Our plan is to resume the tour the following week in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Our first time back on stage will be a very tough and emotional thing for us, but we will all get through it together and honor the people we lost by doing the only thing we know how to do — play our songs for them,’ the tweet read.

The singer added: ‘I hope everyone understands why we can’t play this weekend and I’m sorry if anyone is disappointed.’

Aldean also thanked his friends and fans for their support since the horrific shooting.

The My Kinda Party singer took to Instagram on Monday and issued a rallying cry for Americans to come together.

He wrote that something has ‘changed’ in the world, making it ‘the kind of place I am afraid to raise my children in.’

‘At the end of the day we aren’t Democrats or Republicans, whites or blacks, men or women. We are all humans and we are all Americans and it’s time to start acting like it and stand together as one!,’ wrote along with a Pray For Las Vegas graphic.

He also added: ‘Just know u all are in my heart and my prayers as we all go through this together. Time to come together and stop the hate!’

Aldean and his wife Brittany Kerr announced in May they were expecting a baby boy.

The Crazy Town singer also has daughters Keely, 14, and Kendyl, 10, from his first marriage to Jessica Ann Ussery.

Jennifer Lopez who is  currently in her Jennifer Lopez: All I Have residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, also canceled her scheduled shows this week.

The performances will be rescheduled for later dates.

‘Jennifer is heartbroken that such a senseless tragedy occurred. Her thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,’ the singer’s representatives said in a statement on Tuesday.

Organizers of the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Texas said on Tuesday they would offer refunds to people who no longer want to attend for security concerns after the Las Vegas shooting.

Warner Bros. also scaled back Tuesday’s world premiere of the sci-fi film Blade Runner 2049 in Los Angeles after the Las Vegas tragedy, canceling the red carpet.

ESPN’s Monday Night Football and ABC’s Monday episode of Dancing With The Stars both opened with a moment of silence for the victims of the tragedy.
