Jason Cloke: Footy legend’s AFL star son is rushed to hospital after being coward punched – and his dad is FURIOUS: ‘The league is weak as p**s’

  •  His Magpies and Tigers legend father lashed out over hit

Former Collingwood AFL star Jason Cloke had to be rushed to hospital after allegedly being elbowed to the ground during a footy game that had to be called off by umpires.

The hit on the 42-year-old during an AFL Masters over-35s match on Saturday drew a furious response from Cloke’s footy legend father David, who branded the league ‘weak as p**s’ after the incident.

Jason Cloke was captaining the Broadbeach Cats when they got into a physical altercation with the Burleigh Bombers.

When the teams had been separated, one of the Bombers players appeared to suddenly turn back and elbow an unaware Cloke in the face, making him crash heavily to the ground and remain prone on the turf.

Queensland Police are investigating the incident, which saw Cloke rushed to Pindara Private Hospital on the Gold Coast, where he stayed overnight and had a CT scan.

Cloke posted images and footage of the hit and his stay in hospital to Instagram, along with the caption, ‘A lot of people asking why I was at hospital. Have a look at the next video.’

AFL Masters Queensland president Sam French said the league can’t take action until it receives the umpire’s report on the match.

David Cloke – whose other AFL star son Cameron was badly hurt when he was coward-punched during a match in Victoria last year – lashed out in fury on Sunday.

‘Nothing was done last time when it happened to Cameron. The league did nothing about it. The player is back playing this year,’ he told News Corp.

‘It’s weak as p**s. The AFL is weak as p**s.

‘These people should be banned, never to play again. But the AFL don’t do anything about it.

‘Why do you reckon most AFL footballers once they are retired, don’t want to play footy?

‘I have a granddaughter who is nine playing footy. I don’t want her to play anymore. This is absolute bulls**t.’

David Cloke played a total of 333 first-grade games for Richmond and the Magpies in a standout career that lasted from 1974 to 1991.

Last May, ex-Carlton, Magpies and Power star Cameron Cloke was smashed in an incident caught on camera as Templestowe’s Eastern Football League clash with Boronia was about to start in Melbourne.

He appeared to be struck in the head by an opponent while preparing for the opening bounce.

Cloke took no further part in the game following the incident, and took himself to hospital complaining of headaches and being unable to sleep.

‘I’ve had two serious concussions this year so I won’t play again this year. I’ll focus on coaching and focus on my kids,’ he said afterwards.

‘I can’t have my kids – I’ve got a two-year-old, a four-year-old and a nine-year-old stepson – and I can’t have them see me the way I was on the weekend.’
