Jeff Hardy ‘knocked out’ at AEW taping as top rope move goes horribly wrong… with the WWE legend left ‘disoriented and bleeding from the mouth’

  • Jeff Hardy was kneed in the face during a botched move at an AEW TV taping
  • 46-year-old was reportedly left bloodied and disoriented but match continued

Jeff Hardy was reportedly left dazed and bleeding from the mouth during a match with Sammy Guevara.

The pair were facing off in a no disqualification match taped for this week’s episode of AEW Rampage from the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas.

As the match reached its conclusion, Guevara went up to the top rope and performed a shooting star press, a high risk maneuver infamous for the significant potential for harm for both wrestlers involved.

Though Hardy raised his knees up to counter, Guevara’s trailing leg landed outside of its intended target and crashed down on the face of the 46-year-old.

The former WWE star was immediately attended to by the referee, and was reportedly left bloodied as a result of the incident though the match was not stopped.

But his trailing knee struck Hardy on impact

According to a report from SeScoops, Hardy was left disorientated from the blow and was bleeding from the mouth.

The clip of the incident made fans furious, as this wasn’t the first time that the ‘Spanish God’ had injured a superstar. At AEW All Out 2020, Matt Hardy hit his head on concrete as he faced a bad bump after spearing Sammy Guevara from the top of a crane to a table.

The match was stopped for a few minutes, although Matt finally decided to end the fight quickly but was later hospitalized.

Guevara was also heavily criticized during the build-up to the rivalry due to a spot with a chair with which he opened a big gap in Matt Hardy’s head in the middle of AEW Dynamite.

The incident also marks the latest example of dangerous botches resulting from a wrestler attempting a shooting star press.

At WrestleMania XIX Brock Lesnar attempted the highly-flying move in his main event clash with Kurt Angle.

Soaring the air from the top rope, Lesnar under-rotated, missing Angle entirely and landing squarely on his neck, suffering a concussion in the process.

Jeff Hardy has been a member of the All Elite Wrestling roster since 2022, having joined Matt in the company after being released by WWE the previous year for reportedly refusing to go to rehab.

Nearly three decades since their in-ring debuts, the influence of the Hardy Boyz remains widespread.

Last week Brennan Johnson replicated their signature celebration after he netted in Tottenham’s win over Brighton.

Speaking after the game Johnson revealed the celebration was intended as an homage to the Charismatic Enigma.

‘And the celebration is actually, if anyone watches WWE, Jeff Hardy my favourite WWE superstar, so yeah that one’s for him,’ he said.
