Jenna Bush Hager has opened up about her nine-month-old son Hal’s major milestones as she and her Today show co-host Hoda Kotb revealed the first photos they ever took with the partners.
The 38-year-old former first daughter spent Memorial Day weekend swimming and making s’mores with her children Mila, seven, Poppy, four, and baby Hal, nine months, at their beach house on the north shore of Long Island.
‘Two things have happened have happened with Hal’s development: He can speak, as Mila says, English, and he also can crawl,’ she told Hoda, 55, on Tuesday’s show.

‘Of course, his first word was dada,’ she said of her husband Henry Hager getting all of the glory. ‘It’s just not fair. His other word, which is so cute, is hi.’
Jenna said she wished she had pictures from their weekend, especially when Hal played in a kiddie pool with his sisters, but she wasn’t the only one who opted not to document their family time.
Earlier in the show, Hoda explained that she and her fiancé Joel Schiffman are trying ‘to do no phone weekends’ when they’re at their beach house with their daughters Haley, three, and Hope, one.
‘I have no documentation of our lives anymore,’ she admitted. ‘We had fun — we just don’t have a picture of it. But we had a great time. We just barbecued, we did bubbles, Joel and I had tequila. I mean, come on, what else is there.’

The co-hosts were also inspired to share the first photos they had ever taken with their respective partners, explaining that on Monday Priyanka Chopra celebrated the two-year anniversary of her first date with Nick Jonas with a throwback picture from that night.
Hoda explained that she and Joel never took a photo of their first date, but they do have a picture of themselves that was taken on the night they met.
‘The place where I met Joel was at an event, so there were some pictures taken. There were actually other people in the picture who we later just cropped them out,’ she said. ‘I actually have that photo in black in white — it’s like a xerox copy of it — that I folded up in the apartment because it was the very first time [we met].’
In the snapshot, Joel is wearing a name tag from the event, and Hoda is posed next to him with an ear-to-ear smile on her face.

‘I remembered looking at him and going he is so handsome and seems to be just a happy guy and I liked all that,’ Hoda recalled.
Looking back on her own relationship, Jenna said Henry took her to a ‘half-priced burger night and a movie’ on their first real date.
‘I was like, okay, I think I’m gonna like this guy,’ she said. ‘He’s solid. It was fun we had a blast.’
Jenna and Henry are both babyfaced in the photo that was taken when she was in her early 20s, four months after they started dating.
‘I think we started dating in September and that was January, so that’s probably the first picture we have,’ she said.
