Jenna Ortega opened up about her feelings about the ‘politically correct’ nature of Hollywood.
During an interview with Vanity Fair, the 21-year-old actress, who stars in the upcoming sequel to Beetlejuice, began by saying the entertainment industry is ‘so touchy-feely.’
‘Everybody wants to be politically correct, but I feel like, in doing that, we lose a lot of our humanity and integrity, because it lacks honesty,’ she told the publication.
The Wednesday explained she wished that society ‘had a better sense of conversation.’
‘Imagine if everyone could say what they felt and not be judged for it and, if anything, it sparked some sort of debate, not an argument,’ she explained.

‘Am I describing world peace?’ she said in a clearly playful tone.
She seemed to be alluding to her Scream 6 costar Melissa Barrera getting fired from the next installment of the horror franchise for posting in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
Ortega ricocheted to fame with her role on Netflix’s Wednesday, which became the most-watched show over Thanksgiving 2022.
She garnered Golden Globe, SAG, and Emmy nominations for best lead actress in a comedy.
‘A majority of the last year and a half has felt very far from me,’ Ortega said, describing the experience as: ‘very dissociative and alien and out-of-body.’
‘When people mention my name, it’s almost like my name has been taken from me. Now I just feel like I’m floating and…I’m up for interpretation,’ she explained.
Ortega also called the concept of celebrity ‘absolutely ridiculous’ but but passionate about acting.
‘I remember feeling really wrong for resisting it,’ she told the outlet. ‘I think if anybody were in my shoes and reacted to it in a welcoming manner, there’s something severely wrong with you,’ she said, exhibiting her dark sense of humor.

When it comes to the many fans of Wednesday, who dress up as her and show up, for instance, at her Vanity Fair shoot, Ortega has an interesting perspective.
‘Who could have anticipated that someone as dark and twisted and sarcastic as Wednesday could bring out such joy?’
‘The intelligence and wit and confidence that Wednesday has, I think a lot of us wish that we possessed in ourselves,’ Ortega noted.
‘When you’re trying to create yourself and you’re taking all these bits and pieces from other people’s personalities and creating your own broken mirror…’ she paused.

‘Sorry, I can’t think right now,’ Ortega said, collecting her thoughts.
‘I think that’s the beauty of Wednesday. She is inspiring because she’s somebody who doesn’t care what anybody else thinks.’
