She’s been hot on the promotional trail for her new film Respect, in which she portrays the late Aretha Franklin.

And Jennifer Hudson took time out to attend a star-studded Dolce & Gabbana event at the Lido, Hotel Excelsior in Venice, Italy on Saturday.

The 39-year-old made a style statement as she toted around the fashion house’s jumbo £7,954 ($10,950 USD) black Devotion shoulder bag that dwarfed her fit frame.

Turning heads at the jetty, Jennifer posed up a storm with the maxi-bag which she teamed with an elegant off-white pantsuit combination and brown strappy sandals.

Her tresses were swept into a chignon underneath a chic matching fedora, and she concealed her gaze behind oversized vintage-style sunglasses.

Jennifer was dripping in gold jewels, presumably gifted to her by Dolce & Gabbana, and beamed for the camera, also drawing attention to radiant and elegant makeup.

The artist stars in the Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect, which made its debut earlier this month and has been met with a generally positive response from both critics and audiences alike.

The feature is centred on the turbulent life of legendary soul singer Aretha, who passed away in 2018.

In addition to Jennifer, the film also features a cast of famous names including Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans and Mary J. Blige, among others.

Production began in September 2019 and concluded the following February.

Although most of the film features Aretha’s iconic songs, Jennifer also performs the track Here I Am (Singing My Way Home), co-written by Carole King and produced by will.i.am.

In an interview with Variety this month, Jennifer spoke about how she began using her own past experiences in order to elicit a much more powerful performance.

She told the media outlet that, while on the film’s set, ‘I was like, “I don’t think I would’ve been able to tell the story without my own life experience and triumphs”.’

The Grammy Award-winner went on to note that she was more than happy to have had the opportunity to portray someone like Aretha.

‘It didn’t matter what level of celebrity she was. She identified what she cared about and that was the centre of her world. And I think that all of us could take a lesson from it,’ she expressed.
