Jennifer Lawrence attends Black Sparrow premiere in London

She was forced to defend herself against an influx of critisism after fans accused her of coming across as ‘impolite’ towards host Joanna Lumley during the BAFTAs on Sunday night.

But Jennifer Lawrence ignored any critics as she took to the red carpet for the Red Sparrow  European Premiere at Vue Cinema West End, London, on Monday.

The award-winning actress, 27, stunned onlookers in a very revealing golden gown, posing up a storm as she put Sunday’s controversy firmly behind her.

Slipping into the plunging floor-length Dior frock, the halterneck piece made the most of her enviable assets, revealing a generous glimpse of side boob.

The piece was cinched in at the waist, flowing out into an opulent, sequin-embellished skirt that elegantly skimmed the floor.

Tied together by a few dainty straps, the backless piece certainly stunned onlookers, distracting from the recent controversy.

Jennifer wore her hair in loose golden waves as she posed up a storm on the red carpet, her dazzling diamond drop earrings catching the light along with her statement ruby ring.

Her appearance comes after she hit back at harsh criticism over her appearance at the BAFTAs on Sunday night.

Viewers accused the Hunger Games star of being discourteous after presenter Joanna Lumley, 71, called her ‘the hottest woman on the planet’ ahead of her presenting the Best British Film gong on stage.

Kicking off the show, Joanna said: ‘Right let’s start giving out some of those beautiful BAFTAs shall we?

‘And we start with the award for Outstanding British Film and who better to kick the whole evening off than the hottest actress on the planet.

‘Soon to be seen in Red Sparrow, it’s the ravishing Jennifer Lawrence.’

And as Jennifer joined her onstage, she joked: ‘Hi. That was a bit much, but thank you Joanna.’

But Twitter quickly went wild at her reaction, accusing the actress of a ‘patronising’ tone.

Flooding Twitter, one wrote: ‘Never liked Jennifer Lawrence. (Joan Rivers was right when she nicknamed her ‘Miss Arrogance’) and she was so rude to Joanna Lumley last night.

‘I think Joanna meant hottest as in most in demand not in looks. Either way, Jennifer came off as a stuck up brat,’ another added.

And defending herself against the influx of abuse on Monday, the actress explained that she and Joanna, 71, were having an ‘inside joke’ that people just didn’t get.

Talking to Ronan Keating on the Breakfast show, she said:  ‘Everybody thought that I was being rude. But to be fair, I couldn’t have just walked out after she was like, “biggest movie star in the world!!”

‘And I’d just walked out and gone “thank you Joanna”. It would have been like, “so you agree? You think you’re really pretty!”.’

‘It was an inside joke. She went on and said all these really nice things about me and then when I got up to the podium, I was like “that was a bit much”.

‘After I just spent all backstage telling her how to be really nice to me. I wasn’t being rude, it was an inside joke’
