Jerry Springer is considering a run for Ohio governor, a close friend said on Wednesday.
Northern Kentucky’s Jene Galvin, who co-hosts a weekly podcast with Springer, told the Cincinnati Enquirer that the decision is one that has been in the works for a while.
‘There have been who have asked him to run for governor, and he is considering it and will decide that pretty soon,’ said Galvin to the Enquirer.

‘He’s about done figuring it out, but he had to give some serious thought to it first.’
Speculation has been occurring for months, with Springer even going so far as to deny claims of his political return.
Allegedly, the prospect got closer to reality just last week when the TV-host asked Cleveland Democrats ‘Is it too late to enter the Ohio governor’s race?’
Springer wanted specific input from Senator Sandra Williams (pictured), of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party and Representatives Janine Boyd and Stephanie Howse

He has been meeting with consultants and assessing crowded gubernational race.
‘I don’t think it’s too late for him to get into the race,’ Williams said.
Galvin added that Springer would decide in the next two weeks.
Endorsements for the four current candidates have been held by many unions and Democratic leaders until the final list is named. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Rich Cordray may be an additional candidate in the race.

Former state Representative Connie Pillich was leading the Democrats in fundraising, but that number was easily squashed by the more than $4 million that the three Republican nominees have at their disposal.
‘He has one thing that the others all crave and that’s name recognition. Everyone knows who Jerry Springer is,’ Democratic political consultant Bill DeMora said.
Springer has been vocal about not running for governor in the past but did consider a run for U.S. House f Representatives as a challenger to Republican incumbent Brad Wenstrup.
Following his political consultation, Springer spoke at Cleveland Heights jazz club Nighttown about Democratic values on Tuesday, not focusing on his political aspirations during the 15 minute speech.

Williams added that the Springer was received positively by the crowd who had gathered to raise money for Howse and Boyd, two sophomore legislator.
Boyd felt that someone like Springer could potentially draw more Republicans to Democratic ideas on voting, criminal justice reform and money for public transit.
‘At this point, my Republican brothers and sisters, they don’t need our insights. I would like for us to be in a position where they do,’ Boyd said.
On Monday, Springer will be in attendance at the Service Employees International Union 1199’s Labor Day rally in Cleveland. Some Democrats have speculated that Springer is looking for the union’s endorsement as he is also slated to attend Representative Marcia Fudge’s picnic that same day.

Hamilton County Democrats have reaped the benefits of Springer’s fundraising abilities for years. He has also been a speaker at events for Democrats in various states.
‘If Jerry decides to run for public office, I will do everything I can to support his candidacy,’ said Hamilton County Democratic Party Chairman Tim Burke who worked as Springer’s legislative assistant when he was on Cincinnati City Council.
He added: ‘Jerry is also a tremendous speaker and has the ability to really motivate a crowd.’
Springer’s celebrity status and tough topic talks have been compared to that of President Donald Trump.
‘I could be Trump without the racism,’ Springer told The Enquirer in February.
Ohioans will vote for governor in 2018. Current incumbent and 2016 GOP presidential candidate John Kasich can not seek a third consecutive term by law.
