Jesse Lingard goes nuts at home as Marcus Rashford nets late penalty against PSG

‘Go on the boys!’: Jesse Lingard goes nuts in his own home as injured Manchester United star watches Marcus Rashford slot winning penalty against Paris Saint-Germain… before FaceTiming striker as pair celebrate

Jesse Lingard could barely contain himself as he celebrated Marcus Rashford’s last-gasp penalty fly into the net with aplomb like any true Manchester United fan would; by jumping up and down and screaming as loud as possible… before FaceTiming the matchwinner.

The United midfielder was not in Paris and was unavailable to feature in Wednesday’s crucial Champions League clash after sustaining an injury in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool last month.

Lingard was one of 10 senior players missing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men but still United somehow managed to bravely battle back – with a little help from VAR – to register an historical comeback to progress to the quarter-finals.

Lingard posted the hilarious video on his Instagram story, writing: 'Beans, beans, beans' - his nickname for Rashford

Lingard chose the comforts of his home instead of travelling with the team to watch the second-leg clash and filmed a hilarious video of himself wildly celebrating Rashford’s last-minute winner.

He can be heard repeatedly shouting: ‘Marcus Rashford’ and captioned the post: ‘Beans, Beans, Beans’ – his nickname for the United striker – before later sharing another video in which he says: ‘Believe, believe, believe. Go on the boys.’

He then proceeded to FaceTime, Rashford after full-time – sharing a screengrab of their conversation on his Instagram story.

The 3-1 victory in the French capital came with a bit history with United the first side in European records to lose the first leg at home by two goals and still advance to the next stage.

Paul Pogba, who also had to watch on from the sidelines due to his suspension following the red card in the first leg, was in Paris and was seen celebrating with Romelu Lukaku and the rest of his team-mates at full-time.

Everything had been stacked against United with few willing to go against the grain before kick-off. Those who did believe were sat on their high-horses after just two minutes with Romelu Lukaku pouncing on a mistake from Thilo Kehrer to round Gianluigi Buffon and open the scoring.

Ten minutes later and a more run-of-the-mill plotline appeared to be taking shape with Juan Bernat equalising after some neat work from Kylian Mbappe.

Buoyed by their goal, PSG began to get on top but United rode the storm and Lukaku again profited from another error – this time from Buffon, who spilled Rashford’s dipping shot – to tap in from close on the half-hour mark as the match took another turn.

It looked as though it was going to be a brave effort from United but one that was going ended in vein as time slipped away, but then the referee checked VAR after Diogo Dalot’s shot appeared to flick off Presnel Kimpembe’s arm.

After two intense minutes of checking the video monitor, the referee awarded United a penalty. Rashford immediately grabbed the ball, placed it with confidence and smashed it into the corner to send the United fans – and Lingard – into raptures.
